Hello manofpeace,
Many standard electric dryers run off a 30A double pole breaker. You need to make sure the wiring to your receptacle is sized accordingly and the pigtail power cord from your dryer is of the correct size ( meaning rated for 30Amps or more)...

Rick

Can 40mp dryer and 40 mp range be computable

Hi - I'm an electrician an would like to help you with your question.

But - Umm.. huh?

By "40mp" Do you mean 40 amp? They are both "computable" but I suspect that you meant compatible. If so, yes, 40 amps is 40 amps regardless of what it supplys, as long as the wire is the right type and size. I haven't seen a 40 amp residential dryer though. Residential electric ranges and electric dryers are both 240 volts - but the dryer is usually a 30 amp circuit (#10 copper) and protected by a double pole 30 amp circuit breaker. The range is a 40 amp circuit (#6 aluminum) and protected by a double pole 40 amp circuit breaker.

If this doesn't answer your question, please explain in greater detail.

If you are only getting 120v to the dryer, you still have a breaker tripped. It should be right next to the single pole 30. It takes 2 breakers to get the 240v you need to run the dryer. Try resetting another breaker expecially the ones marked 30amp. You do need to get a double pole breaker installed even for safety reasons.

There is the liquid seeping out of the breakers, it is not water the box is dry and it feels like an oil of some kind. breakers are working and are not hot. i have not seen this before. what is it and what...

It is oil. It's used to extinguish the arc.

When a circuit breaker trips, there is an Arc of electricity made inside the breaker, due to the contacts.
The contacts are instantly brought away from each other.

There are three methods employed to extinguish that arc.

[Extinguish the arc. Non-technical explanation. With out some medium to extinguish the arc produced inside, it would go Z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-zap, instead of z-zap]

Oil, Air, and Sulfur Hexafluoride.

So yes, as long as the circuit breaker doesn't have to trip, and produce the arc inside, it is a working circuit breaker.

Is it a safe unit?

NO

The method employed to extinguish the arc if the breaker trips is leaking out.

Replace all breakers that are doing this.

Average cost for a GE single-pole 15, or 20 Amp is around $11 here. A few dollars more for 30 and 40 Amp, but usually double-pole breakers are used for 30, and 40 Amp.

Why anyone would use a twin 2pole 30am breaker I'll never understand.
There is no way this size breaker could match up in quality to two full size 2-pole 30 amp breakers. If one wants to double up, do it with the 15-20 amp sizes.

Fridgeidaire clothes dryer

I will try this again i don't think i posted it properly.
On the power cord where it connectes to the dryer make sure the red and black wire goes to the outside screws (L1& L2) the white goes in the middle and the green goes to the dryer cabinet.
If you have the red or black going to the middle one it will trip the breaker.
