It charges slowly on my USB ports, however it will not dock and allow me to transfer files. It stays on when plugged in, and doesn't go to the dock screen(on the zen). Also the creative software that came on the disk, doesn't recognize the device as being hooked to the computer. How ever windows device manger shows the device under "portable devices" it says "Creative Zen V Plus" Under the device status it shows"The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28) To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver. When I attempt to reinstall drivers it says that the a service installation section of the inf sector is invalid

I had the same problem. This worked for me on a Zen that is 2 years old: Go into the Control Panel on the start menu and select System. Then select Hardware and then Device Manager. You will see a list of all the devices on your pc. Now you should see your Zen about half way down the list. Highlight it and then at the top in the menu item Action select Uninstall. Windows will then uninstall your hardware. Unplug your Zen from the USB port, if you haven't already done so, and then plug it back in. Windows should then reinstall your device and you should be good to go.
I'm having the exact same problem. My zen is 'charging' but isn't detected anywhere on my pc and I'd leave it charging for days but nothing happens. I've tried different usb ports, reinstalling the software several times but nothing. I recently reinstalled Windows and with my new pc my Zen cannot work on it for some reason?! I put previous files from my old pc onto my Zen hoping that I could transfer them onto my new Windows pc but I fear I've lost the data on my Zen completely. Arggh, any suggestions guys? Please..x
If that doesn't fix it trythe USB cable Screen Doesn’t come on anymore http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18859 If your Zen V is dead, wont respond to anything, try this, plug it in to the computer, hold the power switch in the on position, THEN trigger the reset button, worked like a charm for mine, I had thought it a lost cause."
if you are using a fromt usb port- switch to the back usb. The front ports don't always give the zen enough power. Also- look in Device Manager and see if there is a zen listed there- and if it is does it have a yellow exclamation mark? It may not be the zen that is having problems but your computer.
