Hardware malfunction my laptop dell Inspiron 6400 is experiencing problems right now. It stop and hang and a big blue screen is showing these message: HARDWARE MALFUNCTION CALL YOUR HARDWARE VENDOR FOR SUPPORT NMI : PARITY CHECK / MEMORY PARITY ERROR THE SYSTEM HAS HALTED I left it on hibernate on the bed ( shouldnt do that it obstructs cooling vents) and when I booted It showed me the same thing. I started in safe mode then in normal. The laptop is 3 months old. I haven't had any problems so far. . .I hope it was a simple heating problem from obstructed vents and that it won;t occur again. Did it ever occur a second time for you guys?

well i rebooted and its all working without me doing nothing . ..I even played a game of dawn of war and rebooted again . .It still works. . .Could the incident have been linked with the fact that I let it sit on Hibernate on a bed with the cooling vents obstructed?

More than likely it is new software or hardware (or their updates) malfunctioning or being corrupted. best thing to do is to restore to factory default or reinstall your OS orif it was purchased new, then it should still be in warranty by Acer and you can send it in for service/repair

Remove the battery from the bottom of the computer. disconnect the ac adapter, then push the power button and hold it in for ten seconds. reconnect the power sources then try again.

If it still doesnt work, try to reseat the memory cards. Repeat the steps above and remove the screw from the 'M' memory door at the bottom of the computer. Remove each of the cards by spreading the clips on the sides of the card. Then slide it out at an angle. Install them again the same way you took them out. Slide it in at an angle until the the card is all the way into the slot. Then push down the card on the sides. You will know it's in place if you hear the card click. Try to turn the computer on then see if it works.

If you still get the blue screen, see if one of your memory cards is damaged. remove one at a time. and test each memory card on each memory slot to find the culprit. If you only have one card, move the card to the other slot. Just post back what happens.

Greetings
That kind of error usually comes up with Ram/memory issues. try going into the BIOS and disable memory checking. However this issue is almost exclusive to dell :)

The culprits for this is GPU, RAM among others and fix from dell does not guarantee solving the issue. It usually triggers when you use graphics intensive operations.

Hope that info is useful.

Hardware malfunction

From the error report, it sounds like you have a bad memory chip (RAM).
If it's under warranty, contact Dell for a replacement.
If it is out of warranty, go to a vendor that sells RAM and replace it (such as www.crucial.com)
