Question about GE 25831GE3 Cordless Phone
I can originate a call but I cannot hear dial tone. I dial a number and the call goes through but I cannot hear the conversation. My phone rings but when I pick up, I cannot hear aynone. I tested it by calling my cell phone from my home phone. I can page it and put it in monitor mode. The problem is happening to both handsets. I followed the troubleshooting guide in the user's manual and reset both handsets. Is there anything I can do? It is odd that both handsets are having the same problems. Is there a common setup that I am using. The phones worked fine for about six months. I unplugged the extension base for about a week because I was painting the room. When I plugged back in, both handsets stopped working.

I doubt it's the battery. As I understand it the base works fine and the problem is only with a cordless phone. Are you using an external charger stand for the cordless handset? These phones need to be registered to the base unit. That is usually done by installing the cordless phone in the base unit but you may need to do that shortly after insalling the battery or you could have a register button or setting.

I have the problem. I think it is because the battery i have in it was a Ni-MH and it should be a Ni-Cd. I am now looking for the right baterry Good luck Frank email@example.com

I have the same problem with a 25932 phone, and the instructions packaged with my unit was for the 25922 series. How serious are these people?
If you do get a solution, would you kindly e-mail it to my hotmail at firstname.lastname@example.org.

SOURCE: no dial tone
Sounds like you may have a problem with the one handset. Check to see if there is a volume control that you can turn up louder. It may only work while you have the phone in the talk mode. If that doesn't solve the problem then it sounds like the handset is bad. You may also want to plug a headset into the bad phone to see if it will work that way. Providing of course that the handset has a jack to accept a headset. Good luck.
