ThinkPad T60 Desktop Not Restored After Hibernation/Standby

My desktop icons and taskbar do not appear after I go into standby or hibernation. When I restart the computer after I go to standby or hibernation, the laptop asks me to unlock with my password (or fingerprint recognition). After recognizing my fingerprint, it goes to the Thinkpad background screen, but that's it....no icons or taskbar. I can't get control-alt-delete to work. So I have to press the power button to turn off the entire laptop, then cold boot the machine to get everything working again.

There is something that runs most of the interface between the user and the computer it is called explorer.exe to get the task manager open, you can try pressing CTRL+Shift+Delete another alternative is to do an OS reinstallation.

To get explorer.exe

1) press Ctrl+Alt+Delete; in unsuccessful try Ctrl+****+Delete
2) if task manager opens click on 'New Task..." (if task manager does not open, consider reinstalling your OS or simply don't go into standby/hibernate)
3) Once you get the New Task dialog box, type explorer.exe or C:/Windows/explorer.exe

Need to get standby to work on windows xp pro

The only standby I can find in my reference manual is named 'Hibernation' which can be turned On or off as you wish. The instructions are to go to Power Options Properties click the Hibernation Tag and then make your selection to turn it on or off. Let me know how you make out. Geoff

My computer is booting then after short time it return to standby mode then the fan of processor rotate at very high speed and signal is remove from monitor

Seems like the PC has Hibernation mode turned on. After 1 hour windows will put the PC and hardrives to sleep to conserve power. If you want to disable it, here how:
  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Power Options icon.
  3. Within the Power Options Properties window, click the Hibernate tab.
  4. Uncheck the "Enable hibernation" checkbox to disable the feature, or check the box to enable it. This window also displays the total space required for hibernation.

Standby grayed out

OK, try going to Control Panel, then Performance and Maintenance, then Power Options (if the Control Panel layout is by categories). Go through the tabs until you find an Enable Hibernation check box, then check the box and click OK. This should make both Standby and Hibernate work (to use Hibernate, mouse over Standby while holding down either Shift key), if it does not then your system does not support the Hibernate function. Good luck to you!

No active standby button, hybernate facility not found.

In the control panel, go to performance and maintenance then click power options. Or, right click the desktop and select the screen saver tab, then click the power button. If the hibernate tab is missing, either your hardware does not support standby/hibernation mode, or it is disabled in the BIOS. If the hibernate tab is available, click Enable hibernation to do you know what.

Hi,
go to control panel,power options,
change your power settings
stop Hibernation,
" choose what to do when I hit the power button" etc....

Hibernation causes problems with startups

Don't use hibernation, use standby,sleep
or turn it off completly
should cure the problem

Richard.
