Question about NetGear DG834G Router

1 Answer

Resetting password Hi Me again, sorry to be a pain in the rear. I have tried to secure my wireless connection with your instructions but it appears that the user name and password are not set to default (its not something I would have changed so I am assuming my network provider would have done this as the SSID is not default either.) If I reset the router with the little button on the back are there any settings that I should make a note of before I do this. Thanks Mark

Problems all sorted, thanks for all the help. You may or may not know that the password for routers supplied by sky is "sky" the username is still admin. Thanks again

Hello again, no problem at all! Thanks for letting me know.

If your router was actually set up by your ISP/network provider, or came with their settings, I’d recommend a visit to their website or helpline before going further.

This is because ISPs sometimes put their own firmware onto a router – most don’t do this, but some do. This makes the standard manufacturer’s manual useless for troubleshooting, and can make simple tasks, such as setting security, more difficult. I know that Sky do this, for example.

So I would not recommend a reset at this point, as you will lose the internet connection altogether until the router is set up again. Also, each ISP is different as to which settings they require to set up the router again: so again, a visit to their website or helpline is a good place to find this out.

Sorry to be negative here, but I’d rather err on the side of caution – having tried to help a someone with a Sky router, I’ve learned to tread carefully!

If you find that everything on your router is otherwise standard apart from the password – and your ISP supplies the password – you should be able to proceed as stated.

If you’d like to get hold of a standard DG834GT reference manual or installation guide by the way, you can download one from here: (bottom left)- there are also some helpful links on this page.

Good luck whatever you decide to do!

Did you enter the security key (password)? It may be your laptop? Try resetting the D-Link to default settings and connecting to the laptop. They reconfigure the SSID and Security Key. Write down the info for future use. Here's a user Manual: http://www.dlink.com/uk/en/home-solutions/connect/routers/dir-600-wireless-n-150-home-router

I have d-link router ,works fine ,my new laptop hp don't connect to interent ,see the network ,but unable to connect

Hi amany91,

There might be an issue on your wireless connection security settings. I would advice resetting your router to remove the password and to restore to factory settings. To do that, look at the back of your router and look for the RESET BUTTON. Then using a pin, press and hold the reset button for about 10 seconds. After resetting it, restart your laptop and then try connecting to your router again.

You can rate my answer if you appreciate it.
Thanks!

Hi,

I do not recommend that you use WEP for security as this is no longer a secure method for wireless network.

Setting up a wireless network can be a bit tricky at times, but if you follow this step by step guide for Linksys routers, you will have your wireless network up and secure in no time.
It will walk you through resetting the wireless router and quickly setting up a securing your network.

hi this is quite simple case of resetting the router, on the back there is a reset hole, get a paper clip or something thin to poke inside it, hold it in for 15 seconds this will reset the whole system and you can start again, just start internet page up, then at top type in 192.168.0.1 then the password and the admin will be admin and password is password then you will get your menu back up and just input the details of your connection user name and password, then the rest is up to you...hope this helps

LOSING Connections when adding new device

Sounds like duplicate IP addresses. clashing.

Set it up so the router does DHCP - must have an address range though.

Set up MAC filters initially, with NO security - i.e only the stuff you know and have entered the MAC addresses and see if that's OK.

Is there a military base etc. nearby - radio interference????

Cant connect to secured wireless network...

Hi Grant,

If it says aquiring acquiring network connection while you connect to the wireless network it means that something is conflicting with the wirelss network, so first you have to check wether 2 wireless utiliies ( windows wireless utility and dell utility )are active at the same moment, if yes disable one of them and try again, still if it does not connect, disable antivirus and firewall and check if that fixes the issue, still if it does not work then try changing the security type on the routers page, basically this should work out and still if u have any issue, please reply to this msg for further troubleshooting steps....

And even if it gets resolved please reply once.

Thanks and Regards

Laptop wont connect to wireless belkin router

If you connect the laptop wired, does it work correctly?
If your Wireless router has password protection, try resetting it to factory defaults, and connect it that way.  If you can connect with the factory defaults (with no security), it's likely an issue with the security on your router.
I'd suggest starting again. Reset to factory defaults, re-secure the network and try a different SSID name this time, and try again.

Lost codes

On the back of your router there is a reset button, hold it down for 3o seconds or so, this will reset the router back to factory settings, the default user name and password would be admin, note that sometimes with the belkin you only need the user name and not the password. Usually you need admin/admin though.

The default IP address to access the router when its reset is 192.168.2.1

Hope that helps
