Question about Honeywell Focus 6300B 5-2 Days Programmable Thermostat Heater

2 Answers

I'm trying to install a Honeywell RTH2310B programmable thermostat. I only have 3 wires coming out of the existing thermostat (the red wire was attached to both Rc and Rh terminals). The other wires were attached to Y and W terminals. How do I wire to the new thermo?

If the system worked before with three wires then the fan wire(green) must already be jumped to the Y terminal at the furnace. You should be able to run the red wire to Rh and Rc, run the white wire to W and run the yellow wire to Y on the new thermostat. You will not have control of the fan (ON or AUTO) from the thermostat. R is 24v from the furnace, W is the Heating circuit and Y is the Cooling circuit.

Your house might be older.  Are your receptacles two-prong, or three?
I would ignore the missing "G" wire, and connect Red to both Rc and Rh, and Y to Y, and W to W.

Rth2310b wiring

More than likely, this is what you have:

Red- Power- (RC/RH)
White- Heat- (W)
Green- Fan- (G)
Blue- Cool- (Y)

Usually, the only times you need more than 4 wires are:

1. You have a HeatPump system.
2. Your new digital thermostat does not use batteries, which then you have to have a common wire to power the thermostat.

I just installed a Honeywell 5.2 Day RTH2310B Programmable thermostat and I had to deal with the same situation: 2 wires, one white one black. After reading the edvice in one of the blog, the solution that worked for me was: BLACK ON Rc terminal and WHITE on W terminal. My furnace is running fine now. Hope it helps.

check to make sure that it's wired correctly. R(red)power, G(green)common, Y(yellow)cooling, W(white)heating, O(orange), E(emergency)heat. Make sure that you have the correct thermostat because there is a heatpump thermostat and there is an air condition thermostat and they are wired differently.

Trying to hook up a RTH2310B thermostat to a wood pellet stove with only two wires.. How do I know where to connect them too?

Hey Brad432, this is what i did with the same RTH2310B thermostat and my harmon stove. You must have the heat sensor that plugs in the back of the stove to start with. Take your new wire from the stove to your thermostat, red to rh, white to one side of your sensor then other side of sensor to W on your thermostat. On your stove side set your room temp as high as it will go and let your programmable thermostat set the room temp. Works good for mine. Good Luck
