Question about HP Compaq Presario 2200 Notebook

1 Answer

Wireless Card will not fit in slot

I have a Presario 22oo and needed a new network card. I purchased a LINKSYS Dual Band Wireless-N Notebook adapter that does not seem to want to slide all the way into the notebook. How do I check to see if the pins are lined up?

Thanks so much...

Kathy

First, make sure that the type of card that you bought is compatible with the slot. Your presario can use Type I or II standard PC or PCMCIA cards. If the linksys adapter that you bought is not a PC/PCMCIA card, rather an ExpressCard, it really won't fit.

Is there any way to connect to wireless internet with this kind of computer or whether need to other hardware .thank you.best regards.

The easiest way to connect to a wireless internet connection is to purchase a wireless networking card that fits in the PCMCIA slot. I would recommend a Linksys Adapter (WPC54G).

I have an old laptop that has a linksys wireless-b notebook adapter and my new computer with a linksys router attached is a linksys dual-band wireless-n. I can not get the notebook to link to the router...

Most of the newer routers use a newer type of encryption (WPA or WPA2) which is not supported by older 802.11b hardware.

Either set the Linksys router to use WEP encryption, or get a newer 802.11g card for the old laptop which can use WPA or WPA2 encryption.

Older versions of Windows XP also need to be upgraded to Service Pack 3 or apply this patch:

Possibly you are using an older driver for this wireless card, check with www.linksys.com too see if thier is not an updated driver for your card which includes the monitor mode you are looking for or download a network monitoring tool like netmon from www.download.com
