Restoring computer factory settings

I get to step three and when i press enter after i have selected REPAIR YOUR COMPUTER it takes me to the normal mode and sign in screen amnd i never see the DELL FACTORY IMAGE RESTORE to select it. every time i turn computer on it ask for f1 to reboot or f2 and i have to press f1 or i cant do anything or go anywhere i have pressed f2 and went there after that it goes back to where i have to press f1 again.these are your instructions what should i do know. a screen pops up and states VPSHELLRES.DLL COULD NOT BE FOUND. THE BIOS IN THIS SYSTEM IS NOT FULLY ACPI COMPLIANT. ***STOP:0X000000A5, 0X000000A11,0X000000A6,0X0000000, 0X0000000.
1. Turn on the computer.
2. As the computer starts, press (keep on tapping on it) on the keyboard until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears on the screen. (Note: You must press before the Windows logo appears on the screen. If you press after the Windows logo appears on the screen, the Advanced Boot Options menu will not appear on the screen. If you do not see the Advanced Boot Options menu, restart the computer, and then repeat this step until you see the menu on the screen.)
3. Press the on the keyboard to select Repair Your Computer on the Advanced Boot Options menu, and then press .
4. Specify the language settings that you want, and then click Next.
5. Log in as a user who has administrative credentials, and then click OK. (This will be a drop-down menu. The default user will be "Administrator". Select your own user name from here. It's the same user name when you log on to Windows. Then type your password.)

    i have the windows vista disk and drivers and utilites disk only if you can tell me step by step how to restore my computer using those disk then great or modify the solution from before and tell me then i would really appreciate it. i have to press f1 every time i turn computer on.

Another suggestion is boot the system from your OS disk, if you have one, and repair or reinstall OS. Reinstall should not cause you to loose any files.

Dell system includes a restore utility called 'Dell Symantec System Restore' to reset or restore your Dell system to factory setting. This utility is convenient because you're not forced to use the Windows startup CD to restore your computer.

Step 1: First backup all your important data and restart your computer.
Step 2: Press 'F8' if you are using Win7/Vista or 'Ctrl + F11' if you has Win Xp. 'Advanced Boot Option' menu options will be opened.
Step 3: Choose 'Repair your computer' from the 'Advanced Boot Options' from the menu and press 'Enter'.
Step 4: Select language setting and press 'Enter'. Now Login window will be appeared.
Step 5: Now login as administrator to continue the factory reset process.

I had to do a factory reset on my dell dimension 4600 and i managed to get windows xp working but i cant get the internet to work. i cant get it to find my bt home hub it is wired with an ethernet cable...


Use whatever computer you are using to reach FixYa.com to go to Dell.com, and click support. If the 2 computers are in different locations, write down the Service Tax number off the back of the dell, and take it with you. Also take a thumb drive with you that has at least 1 GB of free space. On the Dell Support page, type in the service tag number, and hit enter. Tell it you want drivers & downloads Tell it what version of windows you are using From the files selected, download all of them. Put them all on your thumb drive. Take the thumb drive to your Dell. Insert the thumb drive. Install the drivers one by one until one of them makes your network card work.

Hello trivium_adan, It sounds like everything you've done is correct!

Try these instructions to restore your computer back to the Factory Settings.

  • Once the Computer "Bootup;" quickly press, tap the[DEL] key, located at the top [Right] next to the Scroll Lock, and END keys"
  • The next window will be the "Recovery Environment."

Note: The wording may differ depending on the type & model computer.

  • "Options:" Select the option, "Repair your Computer."
  • In the next [Systems Recovery] windows, you will have to "Enter" (Location, Password...)
  • Next, choose the box that best describes, the Recovery Wizard:
  • This will have a notice! Restores System back to Factory Settings, or Out of Box!

Note: There will be all types of "Warnings!" Read carefully, before continuing.

Attention: "Once the Recovery begins, Do Not Touch the computer, for any reason at all!"

  • The whole recovery can take up to (4 Hours), the computer will "SHUTDOWN & RESTART several times, several!
  • So until you see the LOGIN" screen, Do Not Touch the computer.

  • Turn off your computer. After the computer has completely shut down, turn the laptop on.

For computers with Windows Vista that have severe corrupted files or drivers, restoring the computer to its original factory settings may be your only option. The process itself is easy and can be completed in around 40 minutes.

Save all important files to a CD or a flash drive. Restoring your computer to its factory settings will erase any information that you have added to the computer since you bought it, such as word processing and music files.
Step 2

How can I restore to factory settings w/out restore discs


how about trying to restore to a point where everything was running real smooth,,,go to start/all programs/ accessories / system tool /system restore..check off restore to earlier date try to go back at least 2-3 month if possible..click ok..system reboot and prompt you on start up is this earlier date you chose okay...click okay

to restore the settings you have to follow the steps

    Windows XP
  1. Step 1 Disconnect all peripheral equipment that is attached to your computer such as printer, scanner, external hard drive and memory sticks.
  2. Step 2 Restart the computer. After the Dell screen appears on the monitor, hold down the "Ctrl" key and press the "F11" key. If the Windows XPmag-glass_10x10.gif screen appears before you can finish this step, wait for the computer to finish rebooting and restart the computer again.
  3. Step 3 Highlight "Restore" in the Dell PC Restore window by using the tab button. Hit "Enter."
  4. Step 4 Highlight "Confirm" in the restore warning box by using the tab button. Hit "Enter." This will start the system restore process. Do not attempt to turn off the computer during this process or vital system files may be damages and you will not be able to restart your computer.
  5. Step 5 Click "Finish" in the box that notifies you that the restoration has been successful.

How to reset to factory default without disc


Step 1. First you will have to restart your computer.

Step 2. During bootup, continuously press the F8 key and you will see the Advanced Boot Options menu.
note.gif OTE: You must press the <F8> key before the Windows logo appears on the screen. If you press <F8> after the Windows logo appears on the screen, the Advanced Boot Options menu will not appear on the screen. If you do not see the Advanced Boot Options menu, restart the computer, and then repeat this step until you see the menu on the screen.
Step 3. Select the the Repair your Computer option and hit Enter

Step 4. You will be asked about language and to log on as an Administrator.

Step 5. You will then select Dell Factory Image Restore
Step 6. Select the checkbox for "Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition"

Step 7. Click next and the computer will begin the system restore process which may take some time.

Step 8. When it is finished you will be prompted to restart you machine.
