COBY PMP3520 - first charge, but still red light

I just plugged my new COBY PMP3520 into the wall socket to charge it for the first time. Yes, the battery is installed. The instructions say it should show a flashing green light when charging, but mine is a solid red. Does that mean it's already charged (seems odd), or is there a problem?

Thanks! I went back to the manual again after seeing your comment, hoping to find something, and now I feel a bit foolish. It never tells you to turn on the player once it's plugged in. We learned thru experience that our cell phones charge much faster when turned off, so I assumed the player would be the same. The red light I was looking at is the one on the side of the case. They are referring to the on-screen display, which of course doesn't show until the machine is powered up. I seem to be charging just fine. Sorry to have bothered everyone, but I do appreciate you taking time to respond!

I own one myself I like it. WHen you have it plugged into a wall outlet a blue light will come on letting you know that the unit is fully charged. It will chargeup faster on AC power than through being hookedup ti a PC USB port.

Not sure if player is charging

QUESTION ONE:
Can you see it in "My Computer"? It will show under "Removable Drive/Storage"

QUESTION TWO:
Double click the removable drive to open the folders. Can you see your music, photo and movie folders?

QUESTION THREE:
Can you see the player in Coby Manager - under the "DEVICE" tab?

QUESTION FOUR:
When disconnected from the computer, how long can you listen to the Coby player before it goes off?

If not present in My Computer or in Coby Manager/Device Tab, then it is not plugged in correctly.
a. Disconnect the player from the computer.
b. Wait for it to cycle through "Please Wait" and "Updating Library" screens.
c. Make sure the player is TURNED OFF
d. With player TURNED OFF, reconnect wire to the player then to the computer.
e. You will see a USB connector icon on the player screen and the player charging.

It will appear to be charging all the while it is connected to the computer.
After it has been plugged into the computer for an hour, it should be well charged unless the battery is completely run down. In that case, you need to do an initial 8 hour charge - with the coby player OFF - through the computer. (This one got me when I first got my player!)

f. Use the Coby Manager to disconnect the player (Found HERE CobyMedia Manager fix for MP822 (Windows XP/2000/Vista)

1. Open Coby Manager
2. Go to the DEVICE TAB
3. CLICK on EJECT Button in lower right hand corner.
4. It will have a pop-up screen to ask "Do you want to eject?" Click YES.
5. The second pop-up screen will tell you "The device can now be safely removed from the system."
6. Disconnect the player from the computer.
7. The Coby will now show "Please Wait..."
8. It will take the Coby about 10 minutes on the "Please Wait" screen and then on the "UPDATE the Library" screen - Be PATIENT

You should now have enough battery power to use it. To check the battery level,

1. Turn on the player
2. The battery icon is in the upper right hand corner of the screen - it is ALWAYS RED until it starts to go down... I've not had mine down very far, but believe the red line gets shorter as the battery is wearing down.

Hope this helps.

Can I use a wall charger on a COBY 705 4G?

Yes, However it will show up as a USB cable but hold the power switch and will begin to charge. You also can use the player while it charges that way!

Can I charge my Coby mp705 using a AC adapter?

Yes you can but you need to find a 3.7(whatever the voltage is) and the right size. Its risky. But at wal mart they sell this usb charger. U plug it in to the wall outlet and it would act like your computer usb slot.

Player is not turning on

Sometimes I must hold the play button down for over 7 seconds on my unit to get it to turn on. See also the answer to the question on properly charging the unit; i.e, have the slide switch in the "off" position.
If you are using a USB hub to charge the mp3 player then the hub must be powered.
