Question about Tech Solution TS-4500 Shredder

Need to re-adjust the paper sensor switch

I need to re-adjust the paper sensor switch on my Techsolutions TS4500 shredder as it will not run continuously with one sheet (I have to hold the sensor down to maximum stroke). Removed the 6 base screws, but the cover won't come off. I can see a large plastic post that is preventing the cover's removal, but no way to detach it from either cover (I see it stressing the bottom cover when I try to lever it off and feel it'll break if I force it further). Any suggestions? (Not worth taking it to a 'shop' as they'd charge more than it's worth). Aussie Bob

Re: Need to re-adjust the paper sensor switch

I have one of this model. You can see 6 holes with screws in them. The 7th hole is under the serial number paper tag near where you see a deformity of the plastic. I have not taken it apart & I don't know if the sensor is adjustable.

This TS4500 shredder had been discontinued for more than 5 years. The factory did not make any spare parts for this model.

Techsolutions TS-8000 runs continually when switch is on. Normally you need to feed it to start is in the on position

I have a TS2500 and it behaves in a similar fashion. It sounds like you may have a paper jam keeping the paper sensor switch turned on. The first thing to do is make sure that the container that collects the shredded paper isn't full. Everytime I fill mine up I have this problem. Emptying the bin and pulling the shredded paper from the bottom of the unit usually allows it to automatically shut off. If that isn't enough, make sure that you don't have a paper jam in the cutter rollers. The most important thing you can do is make sure the unit is unplugged before doing anything with the shredding mechanism.

Hope this helps.

It sounds like you may have a gear with a broken tooth you should contact the manufacturer to get more info. Usually when this is the case it will shred good for only a few revolutions and then reversing backs the gear up to a position that allows it to turn the cutters until it once again reaches the area where tooth is missing.

The only solution with respect to safety is to order a new switch from the companuy that manufactures/sells this shredder, and mount it according to the manufacturer/sales company's instructions.
If you want to bypass the safety of the machine, just keep the cables (should be 2, + eventually a ground cable) open, or shorted, depending of the machine's configuration. Remember that this is on your or your collegaues own risk!! A shredder can easily bite your finger off!

My shredder keeps running and won't stop in on/auto mode

Does the shredder have the electronic eye to sense paper? Sometimes dust will collect on the sensor causing it to keep running.
