Let me start with I'm a commercial washer and dryer tech. I'm doing a favor for a friend and looking at there whirpool washer model number gsx9885jq0 catalyst. The washer agitates and spins but will not drain the water. The water is flowing through the pump but seems to not be getting through what looks like a secondary pump in the rear of the washer. I'm not familiar with this part and am not even sure what it is or is called. I'm thinking that either it isn't opening preventing the water from draining out or some thing is stuck in it. I took the hoses off to it and can't see anything obstructing the water flow so I'm at a lose as to what it could be.

Re: draining problem with whirlpool washer
It appears your timer/main controller/CCU has failed in this instance.
For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing. I recommend both sites because ...
FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.
PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information. RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.
If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell. In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.
Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.
If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

I'd look at each of the diagrams in detail and try to determine which part it may be.
I'd also check the following Whirlpool / Kenmore Service manual for these washers as well as the Whirlpool parts list for their top load commercial washers (although the consumer models are basically the same.)
the pump is either broken or there is a block in the drain line sadly with these ne high tech units they can break down within weeks ive seen 3000 dollar washers and fridges writen off as quality test are very weak
I have a GE and my friend has the same problem with his whirlpool. Removed the frt cover adn looking at the washer on the left side there is a clean out drain. My kids leave things in pockets and filles this drain up and washer will not drain. it is very easy to do
You need to give more info in order for a diagnosis. Is this a compact stack unit or an all -in -one unit or an interconnected washer/dryer pair ? Is it front load or top load washer ? What do you mean by "dry cycle"? Is that dryer cycle or is it washer cycle without water ?
Usually when water cannot be drained it is a bad coupling connector on the motor drive, or a bad or clogged pump (small socks have been known to get sucked in an lodged in the pumps); in either case you need a good mechanic or a service person to handle the repair because it requires opening up the shell of the unit and getting to the motor/pump assembly. As always, disconnect the power cord before diving into the unit. Good Luck, Macgivor.
