I should have mentioned if none of the suggestions work you may have a burned out speaker. The heat generated by the windshield dries the speakers out. I have had two speakers replaced in my Whistler 78 Pro in the last 5 or 6 years.

IF the volume is turned up and the unit is not is its "Auto Quiet" mode and no audio is reported during the units self test, then contact the manufacturer of your radar detector. They can then tell you what steps are needed to get the audio back on your unit.

New speaker

call 800-531-0004 to order a speaker for your 1660. For the XTR-690 its best to return it for service under warranty.

8500 radar display

I take it that pressing the 8500's City button won't switch sensitivity modes? If so, and if performing a RESET doesn't resolve this problem, then either the firmware is corrupted or (most likely) the micro-switch for the City button has gone bad and needs to either be replaced or possibly resoldered so that its two terminals are once again making full contact with the solder pads on the circuit board.

My bel 980 speaker quit working

On mine you can barely hear it on the 9 setting. I put in a different speaker but no difference. I did look up the number on the IC chip near where the speaker connects (34119) and it came back to a 500 mW audio amplifier, so you could probably replace that and fix it. I think it's what you call a flat-pack style chip. Not as bad as surface mount but will still require a tiny soldering iron. I think the actual part number ended up being MC34119D and should cost a dollar or less.

How may I set the vg 2 on my express 795?

Entering Selectable Features Mode
1. With the unit OFF, press and hold the CITY button then press
the PWR/VOL button. The amber X LED will illuminate and a short
“beep” will sound.
2. Immediately after the “beep”, digit #1 will appear and indicate
the status of the sws™ Selectable Feature. To select digit #2 (VG-2
Guard®), press the CITY button again. To select digit #3 (sws™
Voice), press the CITY button a third time and to select digit #4
(Digital Voice prompts for Radar/Laser/VG-2 Guard®) press the
CITY button once again. Use the CITY button to select one of the
four digits.
3. If the selected digit is solid, feature is ON, but may be canceled
by pressing the AUDIO button. Two “beeps” and the flashing digit
will confirm feature is OFF.
4. If the selected digit is flashing, the feature is OFF, but may be
activated by pressing the AUDIO button. A single “beep” and
solid illumination will confirm the feature is ON.
5. Press the PWR/VOL button to retain your new settings for Selectable
Features. Two “beeps” will confirm that you have exited from
Selectable Features Mode and your unit will be ON.

Model 1733 doesn't have feature memory and thus doesn't have a factory reset. Is the volume turned up?
