This is a Palm Pilot problemTrouble with hot sync:On tapping Hot Sync, I get the message "connecting with the desktop using cradle/cable." This then becomes "connection between the device and desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again."I've checked dozens of times. 2 different cables. 3 different USB ports.I am running a Mac iBook G4 on system 10.5.

Hi, It sounds like you have the settings wrong in the software on your desktop. If you are trying to hot sync it and your desktop software is set to sync it a different way other then by USB cable you will get that error message. I had the same problem on the connection and it turned out just to be so simple as some dust/dirt in the connection surface for the sync cable. I fixed it by cleaning the connection surface with isopropanol. That helped.
I also had this problem. Searched for a solution and found that the error message refers to older programs incompatible with newer models of the palm. If you do a Hot Sync on a different and/or newer model palm device there may be these incompatibilities. The usual problem programs are mypalm and mytreo. You need to delete them by first doing a Hot Sync going to Applications on the palm tap on the menu icon (or the left upper corner of the display) tap on Delete go down the list to delete each of these programs. Hot Sync problems should stop If not, you need to do a hard reset and then slowly add third-party software one by one and look for problems.
I have a similar problem with my m515. I have 3 palms and 2 sync fine but the 3rd isn't even getting to the computer. There is no recognition from the computer that the palm is trying to sync even though I use the same cradle for all palms. The ensuing message is, "the connection between your handeld computer and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again". My settings are set Local and Cradle/Cable.
Something similar happened to me due to incorrect periodic entries in the Datebook, try disabling all elements in the Hot Sync, try it, and if it works, then add them one by one until you find the offending one, then focus on clearing that DB. (Actually i simply stopped synching Datebook since i didn't wanted to loose all the history of appointments i have).
If u need to make connectivity between computer and Palm mobie then u need to install hot sync software on ur Pc and activate hotsync option from ur mobile then with cable u can transfer the data . if u not have proper software of hotsync then download it from palm Site.
