Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console

No sound/video; controllers won't connect on xbox 360

I turned on my xbox 360 last night and ran into an unusual combination of problems. To begin with, I turned on the console with my wireless controller, but when the xbox turned on, the controllers wouldn't connect. The light ring on the controller spun, but would never connect. So, first I tried pressing the controller link buttons on the xbox and controller; no success. Next, I turned on the xbox manually and tried the link the console and controller with no success there either. At the same time this was happening, I noticed there was no video or sound coming out of the machine. I checked all of my connections, and even tried to go between HDMI and component on three different televisions; still no luck. I let the console sit turned on for about 15 minutes and came back to find the controllers reamined unconnected and there was still no audio/video. INterestingly enough, when I tried inserting a game disc, it semed to load the game and play it, but of course I couldn't be sure becasue I couldn't see it.

Addtionally, this happens after a few months of having the video tint green during gameplay and then return to normal. Also, during that time, the screen would sometimes pan left...is there a correlation?

That sounds like a reasonable solution, however, before I decide to open my console, I'd like to get a second opinion. Thanks for your response!

I have tried several games, and even tried starting the xbox once with a game and once without one in.

The main concern of mine is not so much the controllers as is the fact that there is no audio/video despite having tried several different input signals (HDMI, standard video, and component)

Have you tried another device on the input to verify that it is the 360 at fault and not the TV??

It sounds like a faulty main board. What you can try first is a firmware update or firmware reflash (reinstall). Download the latest firmware for XBOX360 and reload it. Then power cycle your unit after successfully reloading the firmware. If that didn't fix the problem, its already a faulty board. Claim your warranty if its still under warranty.

To start, if one of MMBT3906LT1( transistors) are blown, the Xbox does not start, I don't know whi this was addressed as the problem.

If the wireless scontroller does not start, restart the console after unpluggign the console power cable for ten minutes.
It the Xbox still does not synch, take console and controllers to the shop to verify there is no fault.

Try also connecting the console through a different cable.

The issue is likely a failing voltage regulator transistor. The P/N of the transistor is MMBT3906LT1 and it can be replaced at home with a small soldiering iron and some care. Look up the transistor part number. There of plenty of location guides and sources to buy it on line. They are all of a few dollars.

I just got a refurbished xbox 360 elite and when i turn the wireless controller on it doesn't connect. It just keeps blinking. How do i get it to connect?

To begin, turn on your xbox 360. On the top of the wireless controller, to the right of the LB button there is a small white button. Hold this, and the lights near the xbox button will spin in a circle. On the front of your xbox 360, there is a button to right of the memory card slot. Press this button and the lights on the front of the xbox will spin. After a few seconds, the controller should synch with the xbox. If this does not work, make sure that the lights are spinning in circles at the same time.

Please let me know if you need any more help

Setting up a 360 wireless controller

Turn Your Console and Controller On The Xbox® Guide button in the center of your controller puts the Xbox 360® experience at your fingertips. Press and hold the Xbox Guide button to turn your console on.
To turn on your console only, press the power button on your console. To turn on your controller only, press the Start button on your controller.
Once on, pressing the Xbox Guide button gives you immediate access to the Xbox Guide. To turn off your console, press and hold the Xbox Guide button for three seconds and then confirm your selection.
Turn Your Console and Controller Off To turn your console and controller off, press and hold the Xbox Guide button on your controller for three seconds. Then select whether you want to turn off just your controller or both your controller and your console. (Selecting the console will turn off both the console and all connected controllers.)
To turn off one controller when multiple wireless controllers are connected, press and hold for three seconds the Xbox Guide button of the controller you want to turn off, then select Turn Off Controller.
To turn off your console only, press the power button on your console
When you connect a controller to your console, it is assigned a specific quadrant, which glows green to indicate the controller's number and position. Each subsequent controller connected to the console (up to four) is assigned an additional quadrant.
If system problems should arise, the Ring of Light on the console will flash combinations of red.

I hope this solved your problem.
Happy Gaming!
