Question about Archos 605 WiFi Digital Media Player

1 Answer

I cant access my files when I plug my Archos 605 into a computer!

My 605 wifi used to work perfectly, but one day recently it has stopped showing any of my music, photos or anything else when I plug it in to the computer. I think the problem is that it is stuck on PC Hard Drive mode in the settings, and when I try changing it to Windows Media Player mode, the machine just reboots itself and goes back to the Hard Drive mode. As a result, I can't put any music or photos on or off the Archos! Help!

Copying Video from archos 605 wifi to computer

I think the Archos 605 has a 2gb file limit, so the only option would be to split the avi.
Search on Google for an avi splitter - there are some free ones out there.

If I remember correct, then when I updated my Archos by hard reformat you have to request Archos resend the plug-ins, as long as you have the reciept or email.

First off, I would recommend at least to get you going, that you NOT use the Archos to buy your plug-ins. Instead go to a desktop or laptop computer and buy your plug-ins using it. You will get the files you need by email. Once you copy them to the root of your Archos, the upgrade is painless. You likely will need the latest firmware before you upgrade so make sure you get that first.

I bought 4 Plug-ins for my Archos 605 WiFi TV+(Cinema+Podcast+Web)plugins for about $38.00 US on eBay. The deal was quick and cost much less than I would have paid to buy them directly from Archos. The seller I bought from claims to be an authorized reseller. I believe this is true because when I went to Archos, I found my player already registered. You may also find that you can get a similar bulk price for plug-ins for at the Archos Forum.

On your pc, go to Start\run, type diskmgmt.msc and click ok to take you into Disk Management.
In here, you can associate your drive with a drive letter.
    Hope this helps......

Archos 605 WiFi "Cannot play video! Please Check"...

This problem seems to occur when the device overheats. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but all my videos set at 720 by 480 wont play when the device is left running for a long period of time. The smaller video files, however, still play. I think it deals with the amount of system resources required for such files to play. If you turn the device off completely by going to menu, power, and turn off device, and leave it sit for 30 minutes, all files should play properly when you turn it back on.

As a suggestion, DO NOT leave your Archos powered on and on the dvr station. This causes the device to constantly run, and if you havent noticed the Archos operates at an extremely high temperature.
