To disable the Windows Firewall on a network connection:

  1. Click Start and click Control Panel.
  2. Click Security and then select Windows Firewall.
  3. Click Change Settings.
  4. From the window that appears, click the Advanced tab.
  5. Remove the check beside the connection that you want to disable the Windows Firewall for.
  6. Click OK.
Does that help?

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

There is a known issue between AVG 8 and Anniversary Edition of Ad-Aware which gives exactly this error, so if you perhaps just got that ad-aware, uninstall it too before trying to reinstall AVG.

Then run the uninstall/cleanup util for Avast because the Windows Add/Remove isn't good for uninstalling antivirus programs. Then try reinstalling it again. If you downloaded the installation package, then it provides the uninstall option. Disable Ad-Aware's Adwatch first! Run the AVG installer. Choose the uninstall option and follow the wizard. When you get to the part to remove user settings, select it. Restart your computer then... Now reinstall AVG using the setup file you got and update it.
Restart Windows twice before you re-enable anything disabled earlier.

Should this not work and you get the same error, that means the original errornous installation is still not out of your system. Download the AVG remover from here:
http://www.avg.com/download-tools
Remove your AVG and reboot to make sure it is not there any more, and try installing again.

Let me know if the solution worked and if yes please rate me:)

I have a laptop and it has vista on it. i installed avg 8.0free and it killed my windows security and now i cant uninstall the progam

Avg 8.0 may not be compatible with vista. You can try to reinstalled your windows security by selecting them from the add/remove programs feature in windows setup, located in the control panel. It's hidden in there but available through searching.

I would recommend using Windows One Care. If you install that from Microsoft.com, it may turn your Windows security back on while making it possible to usinstall AVG.

Good luck on that.

AVG Slows Down Vista?

I'm not sure about AVG, but I do know most anti-virus software has options in setup, where you can alter the level of packet inspection.. Meaning the software inspects every file that is sent & rceived by the pc. If you have it set to the highest level, it will definitely slow the sending & receiving of traffic to the internet or intranet. If there is a medium user level, try that. If you need help with investigating this, please ask. Also ulises_zero's idea of re-installing could be worth a try, being careful about what options you might choose when setting up the software. Rgds,
