I am having the same problem, I have a Motorola sb5101 connected to the wireless router and router connected to the pc via ethernet, and the wireless set up for my laptops. My pc will not connect to internet, it shows cannot find server. If I connect pc directly to the modem I will get a connection. The laptop will sometimes not connect, then I will go to the network connection and disable and then enable and I will pick up a sgnal and get connection.

I have the same issue; a good wireless connection and an inconsistent wired connection.

I followed the support site instructions and reset the MTU and that worked to and extent. After reboot, the connection no longer works in IE. The system shows the internet connection as connected, however. I can get the wired connection back temporarily by entering the IP address Linksys suggests on their support site (\\ and then resaving the settings. But this is a pain!

My WRT160 will give me a great connection and then, for no reason, the connection drops. I call Linksys tech suppport, spend 30 min. on the phone, and get it working. Then, a week later, it happens again! I spend more time on the phone with tech support than with my own mother! Like the previous writer, I also have a a wired PC and a wireless Mac. Is the problem with my Mac or is it with my router? I've already replaced the router once, so maybe it's my computer. However, whenever I take my laptop elsewhere where there's WiFi, I've NEVER had a problem!

I have the same problem as well. I have a Linksys WRT160n router and the hardwired connection to my pc with windows xp keeps dropping the connection. The wi-fi works fine. I chatted with Linksys tech support 3 different times and the problem is still occurring.

When this keeps this could be that your ehternet port that u have ur PC connected to is assgning the incorrect IP or an IP that ur pc dosnt like or recognize
i would have that router replaced
what you can also do is call liksys and have them ¨
¨force ur IP´s on ur PC¨ so it connects the same way every time

if you do replace go with a netgear or belkin
a little more money but u get what u payfor
but try forcing ur IP's befor getting a new one

rate my servie please thanx

Cannot connect with laptop although signal strength says excellent. Intermittent problem. sometimes it works then drops connection. Won't even connect when laptop is next to router.

Please power cycle the router by unplugging / plugging the power cord.

Try changing channels; default is 6; try 1 or 11.
Change your SSID: personalize it
SSID broadcast: Enable

Check the advanced wireless settings and make sure MAC filtering - DISABLED.

Reset the Linksys router by pressing RESET for 30 seconds should everything fails and re-configure. Firmware is another consideration BUT this is just a new release.

WRT160N Wireless Router : i just bought a new laptop and a lynsis wrt160n......

The wired and wireless speed will always be different.
The maximum wired speed will be 100 Mbps. That means the wired connection is working properly.
Wireless connection speed will depend on the router and the wireless adapter on your computer.
If you are using B-Adapter then max speed will be 11 MBPS. IF it is G-Adapter then max speed will be 54 Mbps.
The N-adapter will give you more speed.
Check in the Device manager which adapter you are using on your wireless computer.
One more thing you can try changing the wireless channel on the router.
You will need to access the router settings page.
Update the drivers of your wireless adapter on the computer.
You have WRT160N router.
This router has issues with the Firmware.
Is there any computer connected to the router with the cable.
If not then you will need to connect the computer to the router.
Download the firmware of the router from the manufacturer's website.
enter the model number. select proper version number and download the firmware of the router.

I can not connect my sons wii and DS to the wrt160n wireless router. nor can I find the wep code

To connect to your wireless router, it needs the router’s wireless settings configured and also needs the wireless cards in all the laptops and or computers to be configured with the router’s wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.

To set-up and secure the wireless router from unauthorized access, follow these steps: -
1. Connect the wireless router to your computer with a LAN cable.
2. Start your browser and enter the router's configuration URL IP address.
3. Enter the router setup, login and password
4. Change the admin password
5. Go to the wireless settings and change the default SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
6. Setup encryption key the strongest is WPA2 (if not then WPA).
7. For further security measures - turn on MAC address filtering and enter the MAC address of the wireless cards on the computer/s you want to connect to this wireless router.
8. Record the settings you have made and keep it in a safe place and Save the settings.
9. Configure the wireless cards on the computer/s with the SSID and encryption settings of the router.
10. Remove the LAN cable between the router and the computer then the computers should be able to connect to the router wirelessly.

LOSING Connections when adding new device

Sounds like duplicate IP addresses. clashing.

Set it up so the router does DHCP - must have an address range though.

Set up MAC filters initially, with NO security - i.e only the stuff you know and have entered the MAC addresses and see if that's OK.

Is there a military base etc. nearby - radio interference????
