I need to know the polarity for the plug on the output of the ac adaptor for my daughters HP Pavilion dv6500
The cables for these are fairly specific, but if you have a cbale that has the same plugs and fits both the transformer side and the computer side, you cna use that as a replacement. The cord itself has no polarity.
Are you looking to do something else here?
The HP DV6500 uses a power supply with a positive tip. I have an HP supply here which has HP PartNo: 380467-005. It says replace with HP Spare: 381090-001. Input 100-24V ~ 1.5A 50-60Hz. Output: 18.5V 3.5A. Positive tip.

The power supply we have does not have a cable that removes from the module with a plug on both ends, it is soldered inside the module and has a plug on the end of the cable that fits the computers ac adapter jack. I have the plug that was cut off and can reattach it, all i need to know is the tip or ring polarity of the plug.
its a barrel connector (coaxial) which has two connections, one is the center and the other the outer barrel, all i need to know is which is + and which is -
Thanks for the help, i took the laptop apart and traced the wiring to find out the polarity, now it's working fine again.
