Question about Toshiba PC Laptops

1 Answer

Power problem it was working fine until one day the power supply fell and quit working. I bought a new one off ebay with the matching mode number. When I plug it up the power light is green and the battery light is amber. I thought the battery could be bad so I got a new one and no difference. I take the battery out and it won't power up at all and with the battery in it ,comes on for a few minutes and the pops off.

How old is the system? It is possible that the drop with the power turned on caused a surge that damaged the internal power system.
Make sure that you have let the new battery charge for at least 8 hours and then see if the system will run off just battery power. The green light on the power supply means it is getting power and the amber light on the battery means that it is being charged. it shoudl go to green when fully charged.
After a full charge and the system will not run just on battery, then you have a faulty power system on the motherboard. That requires bench time and may not be worth the costs to repai, but that that will depend on the skill of the tech who checks it.

Can a hp pavilion dv5-1127cl power port work in a

Hi there
I think in this particular case it might not be wise. The power blocks for these two appear to be different wattages (65 & 90 respectively) and also the connector to the laptop does not look to be the same, in which case damage to the power inlet socket of one or the other laptop could occur if you tried to fit it too energetically. I did find this eBay seller who gave quite a list of compatible laptop models for the power supply he was selling, but although the DV7 series is there, the DV8 series isn't.
AC Adapter Charger for HP Pavilion DV5 1127CL DV5 1128CA Power Supply
I think you would be better to get a power supply that exactly matches to prevent potential future problems.
Perhaps not the advice you were hoping for, but I would get a new one for whichever machine you need it for, and make sure that compatibility with your machine is specifically stated.
Cheers

Broken DC/DC converter

It is probably a shunt fed switch mode power supply with a short circuit chopper transistor.

Dell won't turn on, screen blank, battery light on when pluggedin

Take battery out and see it will turn on with just the power supply. If this does not work try with just the battery and no other power. If these do not work try to find a know good battery and power supply and these steps again. If all this fails it will most likely be the computer power supply which in some cases is quite a costly repair. It is possible that the motherboard or processor is defective causing this issue.

Charger was plugged in and working fine, went into

OK unplug power supply from back of laptop, remove battery, insert power supply, if NO light, on laptop, power supply is broken..Replace. IF it is OK, hold power button ON for a while, or until, the PC starts, if/when it starts, shutdown, with power ON key, and then take out power supply, replace battery, replace power supply, turn laptop on, now should be OK.

I just bought a new laptop yesterday and when i plug in the chager it dont chager it said plugged in not charging so idk what to do thankxs

On the front of the laptop or near the screen you should see a light that shows one color for when it is running on battery and another when it is charged. Usually yellow when charging and green when charged.

As well when you boot into windows near the clock you will see either a battery when using the battery, a plug with a lightening bolt when charging and just the plug when you are 100% charged.

In your user manual you should find a few picture that show and explain where and what all the light or indicator mean. If you go under control panel ot right click the icon near the clock then you get into the power panel.

If you are new to laptops it is a good idea to have the manual open and go over everything to familiarize yourself with what and where. Then you will avoid what I did when I first bought a laptop and couldn't get the wireless to work. If only someone had read manual and saw where the switch was ;-] Enjoy your laptop once you get used to things they are hard to be without.

I cant get it to open up/work

The drop probably jarred quite a few things in the comp The spring may have fell of the door latch, capacitors, memory chips, bios chips may have gotten loose as well. Possibly power supply has broke if it is not getting any power to unit. You could always just buy a new motherboard since you have all the other parts you need for it.. Cheaper than buying another whole unit.

The battery does not charge anymore ,the bios setting says idle

remove battery and reseat.
Use VOM (Volt-Ohm Meter) and phsically check to make sure the power supply is putting out advertised voltage (typically 19-20 VDC)
Make sure power supply recepticle (the female part on the laptop itself) has not been broken or reamed out such that contact is not being made.

When you plug power supply in, does the charging light on the laptop come on?
