Push OK, CANCEL, BLACK, & COLOR all at once while turning the printer off, turn it back on. I had to do this 2 times to get it to work and then it went through a long period of maintanence before I could print

    or try this

Open the hood and from the right of the printer look down into the left
end of the printer to the area immediately behind the BLACK ink
cartridge. There is a white peristaltic pump here with the words
"Micropump" on it. This pump has six tubes which are used to pump the
six ink colors (Black, Cyan, photo Cyan, Magenta, photo Magenta, and
Yellow). There is also a small connector with about a dozen blue wires
    above the pump.

Toward the left outside of the printer is a WHITE gear (hidden from
view) that drives the pump. The gear itself is driven by another gear
driven by a dark belt that is driven by a small motor.

You can see this gear and belt inside the printer above the pump and the connector with blue wires.

In *MY* case the WHITE gear that drive the pump had come off the axle
and was laying around the area nearer to the rear of the printer by the
clear plastic optical encoder (this is about 2 inches from the pump
toward the rear of the printer).

Using a small mirror you may be able to see this, or you may feel
around for the loose gear. You might be able to shake the printer and
confirm that this gear has come off.

If you have a gear that has slipped off, the Good News is, it can be
repaired. The bad news is, that you have to take a LOT of the printer
apart to get to it. This involves:

Be methodical about keeping track of screws!

    1) Removing the left and right small front panels. (The right front panel is where you stick in the memory cards).

    2) Remove the left and right side panels.

    3) Disconnect the connectors from the top scanner unit that connect to
the main circuit board where the USB and Network connectors are.

    4) Disengage and remove the top scanner sub assembly by releasing the
two hinge clips. Remove each hinge screw and pull straight up to remove
    the hinge.

    5) Remove the inner plastic cover (this exposes the interior of the printer).

    6) Remove the power supply by pulling on the "pull ring" and pulling out from the back of the printer.

    7) Release the power supply connector from the metal chassis and unthread the wires that are hooked in the metal chassis.

    8) Remove the rear plastic frame by removing two screws. The left screw anchors the left metal chassis plate.

    9) Remove the left plate which now exposes the pump, gears, belt and motor.

    10) Pull the belt and gear off the shaft by releasing the retention
clip that holds the gear on the axle. This now allows you access to the
    pump.

    11) Reattach the white gear to the hexagonal shaft of the pump.

    12) Now reassemble the whole mess in reverse order.

Once I put everything back together, the printer spent several minutes
(perhaps 5 minutes) priming the systems with the newly functional ink
pump. I had also done a OOM NVM Reset (Non-Volatile Memory Reset) using
the procedure outlined by "sweetie" above. I'm not sure this step was
    necessary.

    Good luck.

    View from inside the printer.

Top view. The wayward gear is jammed in the slot at left. The Black,
Yellow and photo Cyan cartridges are at the bottom of the photo.

After the left side cover and power supply have been removed the jammed gear can be accessed.

Two gears and belt ready for reassembly.

Reassembled and ready to go. Lower right is the motor with drive belt
looped arount the large dark gear. The missing white gear has been
replaced. The clear disk at left with black pattern is the optical
encoder. The peristaltic pump is marked "micropump". The six black
tubes that exit the pump supply ink to the printheads.

Why is print quality poor after inserting new ink. Copies are faint and have lines

the cartridge is clogged with ink that has dried and reduced the slit. you need to replace the cartridge with a new one. it happens usually if you recharge the cartridge 3 or 4 times with compatible ink.

How to clean ink absorber for canon mp237

First of all open the ink cartridge of your printer.
When the ink cartridge would move all the way over, then disconnect the power cord of your printer.
Now pull the frame of rubber from the printer and remove ink pads.
To clean ink pads you may place them in a bowl having warm water and start rubbing and squeezing them to clean it from ink.
After removal of ink, keep the pads separate for dry.
When the pads get dry completely, place them back in rubber frame.
Reinstall the rubber frame in your printer.

Printer won't recognize cartridge

I had the same problem. I'm not sure but I think I replaced the cartridges when the printer was on because I turned the printer off and removed one of the cartridges. When I turned the printer back on it recognized that cartridge but not the others. I turned the printer off again, rmoved all cartiridges and put them back in when the printer was still off. When I turned the printer on again I had no problems. So...try turning off the printer, rmove all cartridges, then put them back in and restart printer. Hope this works for you .
