Yes you can use a 20lb tank to run the heater. I purchased a adaptor hose it hand screws into heater & screws onto tank works fine. Bought the adaptor hose at HD.

it could be down to the draw off the tank pipe too small or reg is not for a 20lb tank , going to lock out check reg pressure should say on the side , or take hoes and reg off tank , put it back on and turn gas on slowly see if this helps

I had the same problem I called tech support and they said to turn the valve on the 20# cylinder on very slowly for the first 1/4 turn then all will be fine. There is an excessive flow check valve that causes restricted flow when the valve is opened quickly----------mine works fine now

What size propane tank do i need with a Mr. Heater 45,000?

Rule of thumb is that you have 100,000 btu's per gallon of propane. This only translates into the length of time you have available in a tank of gas. The problem arises when you consume too much too fast. The gas can't produce enough vapor to continuously run and becomes dormant which is commonly known as "freezing up". You can use a typical (20 lb.)5 gallon propane tank (barbacue size), but it will more than likely freeze up in 2 - 3 hours of continous use. I'd suggest going to the next larger size a 30 lb. or 7.5 gallon size. The best way to work this system is to have two 5 gal. tanks so you can switch one out when it freezes and let it thaw while your using the spare.

Could not get more then 72hours using 20lb tank on low

HI. propane has 91000 btu's per gallon. 20# bottle has 4. divide btu's of heater by #of gallons for hours of use. I have the same heater and I think the med. setting both burners on is more the 7000 btu's.

Endlessly pushing the ignitor button

In reading about ventless propane heaters a month ago or so, most require a 100 pound or larger propane tank so there will be enough pressure. Could that be the problem?
