To get the icons back, enable the connection in the "managing your network connections" area.Network Connections icon in the Control Panel. If I go in there and click on Wireless Network Connection, it re-enables it and life is good again :-) RICHARDM69

HP and Compaq have several models with issues regarding startup and also losing the wireless adapter. They are offering one time fixes for free even if out of warranty. Go to their web page and go to the support page and start a live chat to get this resolved. My wife has the same model with the starup problem. We contacted them about 3 days ago and just got the shipping box. Give it a try and good luck

Lost mail icon can't retrieve mail

If the Mail icon has disappeared from your dock (row of icons at the bottom of your screen), do this:

  1. Click on Finder (the blue smiley-face at the left side of the dock). This will open a "Finder window".
  2. Click on "Applications" (on the left side of the Finder window).
  3. Look for "Mail" in the list of applications.
  4. Click & drag "Mail" down to the dock, between any two other Apps. You should see the two apps "scoot over" to make room for the Mail app. When you see this happen, release the mail app and it will be sitting in its new home in your dock.

You could try these:

* Check if it is signal related, go near your wireless router and see if the wireless icon shows up without any problems.
* remove the remembered wlan saved in your pc, follow the instructions in the link below:

Try to go to START - Control Panel - Network Connections and from there you should see somewhere where you could connect to a network

Lost wireless connection in ubuntu laptop

Try recycling the router by unplugging it and plugging it back up.

Maybe you don't have your wireless turned on. Look on both sides and in front for the Wireless Switch and turn it on.

Also once the wireless switch is turned on there are keystrokes that can toggle the wireless on or off. Normally you would Press and Hold the FN function key located at the lower left of the keyboard, then hit the correct F1 thru F12 key that toggles the wireless. The correct F1 thru F12 key to hit will have the wireless signal icon )))) on it. Or it might have the icon of a tower with the wireless signal icon )))). Normally the screen will display Wireless On or Wireless Off when you toggle the wireless.

Lost my wireless connection [due to virus I think], have done a complete reformat of xp pro, everything gone and a fresh install from my XP CD, I got wireless working for a short time after installing all...

Ensure that the wireless network adapter is enabled. You can get there from My Network Places ' Properties or the control panel. If it is enabled, you should have an icon in the systray for the wireless adapter. Right click on the icon and select View Wireless Networks to select a wireless network to connect to.
