Hi, are the sticks all the same type? make sure they are seated well, had same problem on my msi board, i seated them and moved them side to side carefuly. and it saw the sticks not detected before. also if they are not the same specs, there may be a compatability problem, most ram is backward compatable, but if not the same specs could be a problem. in my case the slots were worn from too many upgrades, and seating them properly worked. hope this helps you, happy new year!

First of all, make sure you have the right memory - 240 pin, DDR2 SDRAM, PC2-4200 MB/sec.

Your machine should support the memory as it has two banks of 1. Sometimes it is simply a sequence problem. In older machines with mixed memory, I always put the largest and fastest in the first slot. You might try just reversing the memory.

What memory can i upgrade to for my system?

The Gateway GT4022 comes from the factory with two sticks each of 512 MB PC3200 DDR 400MHz dual channel, non-ECC memory, for a total of 1GB (1024 MB). You have 4 slots for memory. Each slot can have up to 1GB for a total of 4GB's. You should install the memory in _pairs_ for best performance. Also, when installing in pairs, you'll need to populate the pairs in slots 1 and 3 (_not_ slots 1 and 2 if using only one pair). Slots tabs on slots 1 and 3 are white. The tabs on tabs 2 and 4 are black.
You can go to memory websites like www.crucial.com to get a free scan of your computer to see all the memory options available for your computer.

Only half of the RAM is active

HI,

Well, you need to understand that The first 2 slots on the board supports DDR2 and the last 2 supports DDR, so first off make sure that your using the first two slots. With that said, I assume that the Ram are identical? If not, that can be problematic. The next thing I would check is the bUS speed, and check with the mfg to make sure they are compatible modules. It supports DDR 333/400 and DDR2 533/400
As well as supports 128/256/512/1024 Mb technology up to 2GB. If your memory falls within these specifications, then put one chip on at a time to test to make sure that each one works independently, as well as try each slot independently. , If both work that's a good thing. You also need to update your BIOS which you can do HERE. If you've checked your slots and each memory stick, and you've updated BIOS, they should work. If not, they there is something wrong with the board when two chips are inserted, your connector between the two slots must be damaged. However, most unlikely, If you follow the above suggestion, you should be OK.

Good Luck,

Mark

When i try to boot my toshiba a75 laptop i receive a boot last good ... it won't boot i removed memory module i installed 2 yrs ago and it boots ... i purchased new memory module and get same error- it...

Below are the specs to the type of memory that can be installed in the A75...it is very specific and cannot be anything else then what is listed. You have 512 mb built onto the motherboard, with one expansion slot. That slot can only hold up to 1 gb stick if the BIOS has been upgraded. Go to Toshiba support and make sure the BIOS on the machine is up to date so it will accept the larger stick of ram memory and make sure all the specs are right on the stick that you have.

Each memory slot can hold DDR PC2700 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.*

  • Maximum Memory: 1536MB
  • Slots: 1 (1 bank of 1)
  • Standard Memory: 512, 768, or 1024MB (512MB non-removable)
  • USB Support: 2.x Compliant

Check the owners manual of your computer for the correct installation of 2 sticks of memory, this can be critical on computers with 2 banks of 2 slots, it will also tell you the maximum ram that will work. If you do not have the manual, go to the manufactures website and then go to the support link, and browse for memory installation. BPCS
