The grinding noise is probably related to the carriage moving back and forth in the product. The good news is...it's still moving! :-)

I would recommend reviewing the steps for clearing a 'carriage jam' in the following section of HP customer care. Even though you do not have a total jam, there are some useful steps for checking the carriage path, to make sure all is clear. You can find the info here (I would pay special attention to Solution Three and Solution Four):

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01447224&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=1146331&rule=8836&lang=en

For the colours seeming washed out, I might check out the following information on HP's customer care website:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01580790&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&rule=10306&product=1146331

I hope this information helps!

Thanks,

_K

Walking Foot Trouble

sounds to me like you are getting what I call "flagging" of the material... where a tiny bur or something catches the material and pulls it up. If possible increase the presser a bit on the presser foot. You might also have the wrong foot for the machine or simply a defective one.

Also when it does this... do you notice any bobbin thread on top of the seam?

HP photosmart C3180 makes a loud clicking noise when printing first page.

After inserting new cartridges in the photosmart C3180 and closing the door it makes loud clicking sound coming from the cartridge area and won't print.

My c3180 printer works but each time the carriage control moves to print it makes a noise. Don't want to buy new toner if it's gonna break.

A noise is a bit hard to diagnose without hearing it but something you could try is oiling the carriage rod. There is a silver round rod that the carriage assembly moves back and forth on. There is a special oil that HP puts out for techs but if you have some light machine or sewing machine oil you can put two drops of it in the carriage rod and print out a test page or two to work it in.

Printer made machine gun noise. will not print.

The print head is stuck - something has jammed it and the noise you are hearing is the carriage for the print head. Open the top and try moving the head by head sideways to see what has jammed it.

Hp 6200 makes machine gun sound before printing, when the print carriage goes all the way to the right is when i hear the machine gun sound, it still prints fine.

Hi,

This is quite normal with this series of printers. Happens on my 6310. It "machine guns" only occassionally (once a month), and then the gunning noise slows down slowly, then the print starts. Might be shaking the head to clear ink rigorously or something.

Machine has a catching noise

See if it's printing or not, usually the fuser gears wear out and either the gears need replacing or the full fuser assembly, there are other possibilities but this is likely the cause

NOTE: try removing the cartridge then turn on to make sure it's not that

Loud clattering noise

-Open the Front Cover. -Remove the Toner Cartridge -Remove the Drum Cartridge -Next locate the black gear attached to the end of the Drum and turn it with your fingers. -Check to see if the gear is locked, or difficult to turn. The gear will only turn in one direction. -If the gear won't turn at all, or if it catches while you are turning it, or if you hear the same noise when you turn the gear that you heard when the machine was on, the Drum Cartridge is the cause and will need to be replaced.
