Did at some point something jam up the auger? Also have you checked the fluid in the gear box? It sounds like you might be haveing a problem with the gear box.

In heavy snow stop blowing snow

1 -Verify that all of your shear pins or bolts are in place. 1 on each auger and either 1 or 2 on the impeller fan.
2- Make sure all of the impeller blades are not bent as this will affect the throwing distance.
3 -Check the impeller bearing as it will lift if it is bad once snow is introduced into the machine.Remove the spark plug wire and verify that there is no tension on the impeller by turning it with a stick or broom handle. If it is safe reach through the chute hole and grab the impeller shaft and try to move it up and down, there should be little to no play.
4- Check your belt or belts. The belt should only deflect 1/2" with moderate pressure to be adjusted properly.
5- Check the condition of the belt, if the sides of the belt are glazed it may be slipping under load, if so replace the belt or try using a belt dressing spray.

My Husqvarna snowblower is grinding when the auger is engaged and it will not throw snow.

Most snow blowers have "Shear Pins' that connect the blade to its drive shaft. These 'shear' off when hitting rocks or other debris that gets caught in the blade. Check those and by new Shear pins. If it is not that, then you have problems in the gear box, or shifting mechanisms.

My yardmachine snow blower 8hp auger won't turn. I replaced the cable and belt but it still won't turn. What else could be wrong?

Check the auger shear pins replace if necessary with correct parts(not regular bolts).
If auger and the impeller are not turning your cable is out of adjustment.
If only the auger doesn't turn, and the shear pins are ok then the brass/bronze gear has shredded which is why proper shear pins must be used. Donyboy73 on youtube show how to replace that gear on an older but similar MTD affiliated blower.

I have a honda ccr2450 and with the heavy snow today it clogged and now the auger doesnt seem to turn to speed and is slipping, not throwing snow etc, is this an easy fix. thanks carl

You have a two stage snow blower. The first stage in your auger and they are equipped with a safety shear pin. Consult your owners manual for proper pin or shear bolt replacement.

My 5hp 22 inchsnow blower does not throw snow The auger seems to work but the impeller will not shoot the snow. Could it be that the belt needs to be replaced or is there another cause?

Could be the belt or more likely, a shear pin. I would lean toward a shear pin.

You don't mention the make so it is difficult to proceed.

Have a craftsmand 24" snowthrower

If the motor runs well, the two most common causes of this are the drive belt is worn and/or the shear pins are broke.
If you remove the cover (usually plastic) in the middle of the snow thrower and look at the belts.
Your operator's manual will show you how to remove the cover and check/change the belts.
If you don't have a copy you can get the manual through managemyhome.com
You will need the model number off the snowblower. It is usually located on the bottom right hand corner of the frame (from the handle side)
The model number looks like 247.123456.
The belt closest to the blower assembly drives the auger/blower and the belt closest to the engine drives the transmission. It sounds like you need to inspect the blower belt.
With the engine not running, have someone depress the drive lever and check the belt.
You should only be able to depress the long side 1/2 inch or less. More than that the belt has stretched and needs to be replaced.
On some older blowers you can adjust the tension pulley, but most made in the last 15 years, you can't.
The belt may be frayed on the edges or glazed causing it to slip (it is shiny on the sides of the belt) It may be torn and broke completely.
Replace the belt if it is worn, stretched or frayed
The shear pins are located on the auger in the front of the machine. Your newer Craftsman has four. If you don't now about them look in your operator's manual for the location. You need all four for the snowblower to work well. Replace the missing ones.
You can get parts for you Craftsman and most MTD made models through searspartsdirect.com. With other makes you can get parts through jackssmallengines.com
If you are unfamiliar with repairing machines you can get your snow blower repaired by taking it to your local Sears.
They will have a technician troubleshoot and repair the unit.
