Hello Mike,well let me tell you that is a really bad symptom this can be caused for not doing the oil change in the right intervals creating sludge (gum inside the engine) plugging the oil ducts everywhere causing bad lubrication in the engine recommendation remove oi pan and the oil screen clean it really good with degreaser or brake fluid (find it in the closest autoparts store) then make sure to put 5w30 oil high milage DO NOT PUT 20W50 OIL ON IT the thickest the worst it can get

check the oil light sender unit or the wire to it . Disconnect the wire and with the ignition on if it goes out then replace the sender unit.

The oil light is for low oil pressure, not low oil.
You need to have someone check the actual oil pressure with a mechanical gauge or change the oil pressure switch and see it the light still comes on.

Oil level to low or it could be the oil pressure switch which is located in the engine block, remove the connector and earth or bridge the wire or wires and see if it extinguishes the oil warning light on the dash diplay.

SOUNDS LIKE A FAULTY OIL PRESSURE SWITCH..LOCATED NEAR OIL FILTER..UNPLUG IT,CHECK FOR OIL IN CONNECTOR,IF SO..REPLACE IT..FAIRLY INEXPENSIVE AND EASY TO DO..STILL MAY BE FAULTY EVEN WITH NO OIL PRESENT IN CONNECTOR..I HOPE THIS HELPS
