Question about HP Pavilion a420n PC Desktop

1 Answer

Clarification I have been able to get into safe mode with networking, but this only gives me a black screen with safe mode written in each corner and "microsoft (R) Windows XP (R) (Build 2600 .xpsp_gdr.080814-1233: Service Pack 2) written at the top of the center of the screen. The screensaver that I see when I boot up is the same screensaver I've had on my pc for years, but no icons or start menu pop up.

Try switching to only "SAFE MODE"
OR
you may also try pressing alt+del+ctrl keys at once this should bring up the task manager. you may try to end some process which may be malfunctioning and this will help you to go to the desktop.

Not able to start windows normally the page keeps on toggling and a black screen appears n goes :(

On boot-up press the F8 button which would bring up a screen. Select Safe Mode and then press ENTER... on the next screen select the Operating system and press ENTER. The screen will scroll rapid fast upwards and stop at a point for a few seconds. Then the screen with windows will appear with SAFE MODE written on the four corners. It will also ask you whether you want to run windows in safe mode. Choose YES. Now click start --all programmes-assessories-system tools- restore point. From there choose a restore point where the system was working properly and continue with the prompts. The system will restore your sytem after it automatically restarts. Hope it solves,. Else load a fresh OS.

I have a dell inspiron lap top with window's vista. There is a problem with it. Even when I turn it on with safe mode it goes to the log in screen, then says welcome, and then it goes to a black screen...

Usually what happens with my Dell Inspiron desktop, even on safe mode it goes to the logon screen. I have never experienced that with my Dell Inspiron 1318. When you log in and it shows you the black screen, try pressing the function buttons. Try F8 or F12. You should be able to start the computer in Safe Mode. If possible, enter Safe Mode with Networking so that you are able to search the web. If you don't mind me asking, why is it that you need safe mode? Is it a virus?

When booting up after the logo the computer goes to black screen. There are no beeps at start up. When starting in safemode it stays with black screen with the safe mode written in the corners

In safe mode try pressing ctrl+alt+del, then go to task manager-->applications-->New task, then type: explorer.exe Now your desktop should appear. you could also try running: msconfig In the same way, and see wether explorer.exe is still in the startup. Adding it again will permanently solve your problem. I hope this helps, Yannick.

You almost certainly have a virus. If you can't even get into safe mode the easiest way to fix it is remove the hard drive and back up any files on it with a different computer, then re-install Windows on the original drive.

You can try booting from your Windows XP installation disk and using the recovery console there to repair your installation. That's not too hard and I would say works 30% of the time.
