Question about HP Printers & Copiers

6 Answers

Hi, I have a Photosmart 330 printer. Q6377F6 s/n 561231f6 Although the machine has had little use and therefore should not be worn out,the printer carriage is continually jamming. As far as can be seen there is no paper or other debris present and if the carriage is given a little push it will continue and maybe print another copy or two bebore jamming again. It's driving me nuts. PLEASE can you help? e mail: kmcbraida@btconnect.com Mike McBraida UK (0)117 956 0635

I would be reluctant to use what we Brits call thinners, the suibstance being Acetate based and likely to melt thermo plastics. Did you mean turpentine/ turps substitute? I would be prepared to try that. But there is also a problem of access . Would you try spraying inside as it is almost impossible to get to the working parts. Or will it have to be dismantled ?(it is not designed to be) Mike

Step one: Perform a power reset

  1. Disconnect the power cord from the printer.
  2. Let the printer sit idle for 15 to 20 minutes.
  3. Re-connect the power cord to the printer.
  4. Try the print job again to see if this step resolved the issue.
    • If the issue is resolved , you do not need to continue with the rest of the instructions on this page.
    • If the issue is not resolved , continue to the next step.
Step two: Clear any paper jams or obstructions
  1. Turn off the printer by pressing the Power button.
  2. If the optional HP Photosmart Internal Battery is not installed in the printer, unplug the printer power cord. Wait about 10 seconds, then plug the power cord back in.
  3. If the optional HP Photosmart Internal Battery is installed in the printer, unplug the printer power cord, if it is plugged in. Open the battery compartment cover and remove the battery. Wait about 10 seconds, then reinstall the battery. If desired, plug in the power cord.
  4. Turn on the printer. The printer checks for paper in the paper path and will automatically eject the jammed paper. Press OK to continue. If the error still occurs, proceed to the next step.
  5. If the paper came part way through the front of the printer, gently pull the paper towards you to remove it.
  6. If the paper did not come part way through the front of the printer, try removing it from the back of the printer:
    1. Remove the paper from the In tray, then push in the catches to release the In tray. Figure 1: In tray catches Hi, I have a Photosmart - c00256377.jpg
    2. Open the In tray to a horizontal position.
    3. Gently pull the jammed paper to remove it from the back of the printer.
    4. Before you lift the In tray to close it, make sure it is pushed all the way to the right on its hinges. Figure 2: Pushing the tray to the right before closing c00256378.jpg
    5. Lift the In tray up until it snaps back into paper-loading position.
  7. Open and close the print cartridge door on the front of the printer to make sure it is securely latched. Figure 3: Opening and closing the print cartridge door c00269435.gif
Step three: Remove and re-install the print cartridge
  1. Disconnect the universal serial bus (USB) cable from the printer if the printer is connected to a computer.
  2. Open the print cartridge access door of the printer. NOTE: The images below might not look like your printer, but the instructions are the same. Figure 4: Opening the print cartridge acHi, I have a Photosmart - c00256379.jpg c00256379.jpg
  3. Press down on the end of the cartridge to release it. c00253529.jpg
  4. Close the cartridge access door.
  5. Plug the power cord back into the printer or if you are using a battery, reinstall the battery.
  6. Turn on the printer.
  7. After the printer turns on, it should display a " Cartridge is missing " message on the LCD.
  8. Hold the print cartridge so the nozzles are down and the contacts face toward the printer, then slide the cartridge into the carriage. Avoid touching the nozzles or contacts. c00211537.gif 2 - Nozzles Figure 6: Installing the cartridge c00253530.gif
  9. Press the cartridge into the carriage until it snaps into place.
  10. Close the cartridge access door.
  11. The printer should display the date and time normally.
  12. Try the print job again to see if this step resolved the issue.
Step four: Service the printer If you have completed all the steps listed above and are still experiencing a problem, service the product.

Acetate might corrosive as you said. You can use ethanol/ after shave lotion instead.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Offhand, most printers of this variety uses a guide rail/rod to support and provide pathway for the printerhead/carriage to move along. Normally, there would be a light film of lubricant as in most mechanical moving parts. If the printer has seen little use, then it is likely that said lubricant has caked or gummed turning into a blockage rather than the intended purpose. Might it simply require cleaning and re-application of a light lubricant? I often use WD40 but not sprayed directly rather to a cotton bud that is then used to apply to the said guide rod.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy New Year.

First try this hard reset .

Unplug the unit from power chord for 30 minutes and plug back the power chord to the unit .
This will reset your unit .

Secondly you need to open the printer and you need to check whether carriage is struck . If it is stuck you need to replace the carriage holder and check the movement of carriage .

1.unplug the power from printer to reboot it
2..if the lights flashing like woof said check for jammed paper or sticky label inserts in the back door of the printer.
4.clean the circuit bit of the cartridge (sometimes a thin film of ink can stop the circuit)

Only prints on bottom half of label.

Your scanner and thermal printer has got loose connection. Print head also may need cleaning by own system. try from the software.

HP Photosmart 3310 does not recognize paper in tray

This is usually do to a sensor, your correct on that, thers usually a plastic piece that indicates theres paper and its broken or worn.

The other thing is that it may be the little rubber grabber is worn and not grabbing the paper, so the printer thinks thers no paper because nothings going through. These parts can be orderd but are usually costly depending on the printer. If its under warranty, take it back.

Also, check the trey and make sure it isnt a I.D.10.T error and you just set the paper to legal or something. I've made that mistake before.
