Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router

Router not hooked up properly

I used to have my router hooked up to a different computer. I now have a newer computer that I tried installing the router on, but after following the steps it keeps saying error 322 new router or gateway not detected. So I bought a brand new router and it still gives me the same message. I know everything is hooked up right and the internet works on my computer with the router hooked up, but it won't finish installing so I can't hook any other computers up to it.

our links wireless G Broadband router Model WRT54G stopped working on us. We didn't change computers but this computer quit recognizing our router. We bought an identical router and it did the same thing. It said "router not hooked up properly". The computer works fine when hooked up to the cable modem. What do we need to do to correct the problem if possible?

Router setup
If you are using the cd that comes with the router, that is the problem. You do not have to use the cd. Go to the control panel and un-install the program that the cd installed.
then:
Shutdown your PC. Unplug the power from the router and the cable modem.
Wait 30 sec. then plug in the power to the cable modem, wait 30 sec. then plug the power to the router. Wait till you have "Internet" light then restart your PC. The PC should pick up an IP address and you should be able to get on-line.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Is this a new router - or should I say did you only have the one computer hooked to the modem until now? Some ISPs use the MAC address of the installed PC to assign the network IP address. Since the Router will have a different MAC address, the modem will not recognize it. ISPs use this as security, but it makes networking impossible. However, most routers have a feature called MAC spoofing, which allows the Router to fake the modem into believing it is the computer originally attached to the modem. On newer routers this is a feature that can be automatically done during the setup wizard. You need to have the original PC hooked to one of the router ports (not WAN or INTERNET) and when the router asks you if you want to use the MAC spoof, say yes.

Router not hooked up properly??

Make sure that your computer is able to go online directly through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem, that means the modem is working fine.
You will need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

First of all using the Router Install Portion try to do a 'factory reset' or a 'reset to default'  - wait for a reboot to see if any change occur.

Next try to use the cable between your Moto Box and your LinkSys Box in a different port on the link sys. It may sound silly, but it can work very well sometimes.

Wireless set-up

Did you try to check if the cord is properly connected to the router? Check if you can connect to another LAN port. If the router is working on the another computer it means that there is something on part of your computer that is not working properly, Check also the Ethernet cable if working properly? or try to use another Ethernet cable to connect with the computer.

was the router used by previous users? or did you buy it? if it was used then it was probably configured for different ISP. You don't need any CD. Just connect to the router via your browser (probably http://192.168.1.1) and adjust settings in WAN section.

the router might not be properly configured anymore. there's nothing wrong if you are using windows vista. what matters is if you have changed your ISP or even if you didn't, you still need to reconfigure the device since you're in another location.you can also try to reset first the router before configuring for a fresh start.

hope this'll help you

ciao

No lights

hello!

Is there a computer connected directly to the router? Possible that the router do not detect any physical connection on it. if none of the number light light up it means that there might be no computer directly connected to the router .

Have you tried connecting your computer to a different port? how about using a different cable? How about a different computer? if theres a computer connected to it hardwired but still no light, try to connect your computer to the other ports of the router and check if the lights will come on. if not, try a different cable and a different computer. Possible that t could be a defective port, defective cable, defective lan card or the driver of the lan card on the pc is not properly installed that's why the pc is not detected

Hooking up a lap top to a router

You didn't specify if he has DSL or Cable internet.

With DSL, keep in mind the software1.gif on the PC is what "dials out" to the ISP with your name / password, and you MUST set the name and password in the router. Otherwise, ONLY the computer that has the software installed (verizon, etc) will be able to connect.

If you're using a cable connection, you don't have to do this, however, most newer Linksys routers come with a 'setup' disk, which MUST be used regardless of connection type.
