You can choose whether to hear the
announcement when your system answers
a call, or have it silent (off) on your end
(your caller will still hear an
announcement).
1 Press and hold "Setup". After the Ring
Select setting is announced, continue
to press and release "Setup" until the
system announces “Monitor is on (or
off)”.
2 Press and release "ANNC/SKIP"or "Memo/Repeat"
until the system announces your
selection.
3 Press and release "Play/Stop" or "Setup"
to exit.

How to recover lost announcement from machine's memory

That is a shame. I also have my late wife's message on my answerphone and my sister in law and I would be sad to lose it. I heard her voice today. Phones usually have a small backup battery to keep things like announcements in the memory. It may be that your phone is old and this battery is not functioning any longer. The first thing I would do is remove it from the power, count to 10 and plug it back in.

Power went out and we lost our custom announcement (our daughters when they were young !!) Just get the default..

The machine contains an internal battery, to keep things stored in memory. This battery will loose it's capacity over time. Keep in mind, that whenever there will be a powerfailure, the personal pre-recorded message will get lost.
If your machine is still in warranty-period, call customer-service and ask for a repair. If To repair this yourself, it's required to have some technical knowledge and skills about electronics. If you lack 1 or both of them, it's better to look for a new(er) machine.

But, no matter what you do, you've to accept the loss of the spoken message of your daughters.
