Question about JVC AV-27230 27" TV

1 Answer

Faded Picture Hi, We have a five year old JVC Model AV-27230. For the last several months when we first turn on the TV the picture is really faded almost to the point of being a gray screen and it has vertical bars running up and down especially on the right side of the screen. As it warms up the bars go away and the picture gets a little better but it still faded. I messed with the color, tint, etc. and improved it some by moving the bars all the way to the left but that no longer helps and the pictures is just really faded all of the time. Does this mean that the picture tube is going out? Thanks for your help. Linda J Schrader

Re: Faded Picture

I would have to say it does sound like the CRT is reaching its end. The thing that points this out that the picture gradually gets a little bit better as it warms up. It most likely isn't worth the cost to fix it.

How do I decrease the amount of green in the picture?

Unfortunately this model has a bad CRT. If is 3-4 years old and the greenish picture is in all inputs, for sure the picture tube is gone. If the picture is green only in component input check the connections for the blue and red cables.

Top of the screen Picture Problem

sound like you have 1 or a couple of leaky/bad capacitors in the tv's vertical circuit, typically, there sould be 5 to 10 caps. in all, but you just need 1 bad one to cause your problem. good luck.

One thing you should not do with electronic devices which have a start up proceedure is to turn the power off, and then on again without a wait of about five minutes. Some equipment manuals warn you about this, and specify a longer period. The start-up has to have time to reset. It will be more likely to reset if you do not leave it on standby, and even unplug it. In your TVs case you need to describe the distorted picture as it may give a clue to a fault, or incorrect start-up. The horizontal line indicates the frame timebase had stopped working. No picture could be a fuse blown inside the set, or a timed cutout which may reset after a time. Try after several hours to see if it comes on. If it is just the frame timebase (vertical) it is worth repairing.
