Question about Whirlpool ED2FHEXN Side by Side Refrigerator

Water drips from underneath icemaker and freezes in bucket

Whirlpool ED5FHEXN... Water is slowly dripping from under the front of the icemaker until the water begins to freeze. Have not noticed any Teflon specks in the ice cubes. Is there a seal that can be replaced or do I have to replace the complete unit?

It appears the unit has a leak because it is not overfilling. The unit is still making ice cubes in the proper size. But it has slowed down the production of cubes significantly since the leak started. The water is dripping just below the first cube cell closet to the front of the freezer. I'll followup on your suggestion to take it down and test for the leak at the sink. Thanks.

Is the unit leaking or is it being overfilled? Is the refrigerator level?

If it is not being overfilled, you can remove the unit and inspect it to determine exactly where the leak is coming from. First, there is probably a 1/2" or so rubber tube that carries the water though the back of the freezer, make sure it hasn't slipped out of place. Unplug the refrigerator, remove the ice bin and loosen the two screws on the tabs above the ice maker. Push the ice maker up over the screws. Pull the 4 or 5 conductor plug out that connects the ice maker to the back or side of the freezer. Fill the ice maker mold in the sink and see if you can find the leak.

If you find the offending part of the ice maker, I've had good luck with these guys when ordering spare parts. Here is a link for your model:

What would cause my ice maker to leak into the plastic ice bucket?

The most likely cause is the fill valve is leaking and causing the ice maker to overfill. Try a new fill valve. Usually located on the rear of the appliance. (where you hook the water line to).

Hello,The reason all the ice freezes together and you see icecicles forming from the icemaker,is going to caused by the water inlet valve on the back of the refrig.is not fully closing but instead it's seeping water through it and dripping into the ice storage bucket. To stop that from happening the water inlet valve would need to be replaced.
On refrigerators that have a built in water filter, alot of times their will be 2 water valves and the one that is bad causing water to seep through it will be the one called the SECONDARY valve.

I had a similar problem with my Whirlpool model 6ED25DQFW side by side refrigerator/freezer with ice maker/water dispenser. Water was slowly pooling under the refrigerator under the freezer section. The defrost drain pipe was not blocked, the condenser fan was running, the drip pan was not leaking.
The source of the leak was found to be the icemaker solenoid block plastic body which had a pinhole leak.
To fix requires either plastic welding, or replacement of the solenoid block plastic body.
To access the solenoid block firstly requires removal of the cardboard cover, located at the lower rear of the refrigerator.

Good day,
The usual cause is a the water valve in the bottom back of the machine not shutting down completely after a fill cycle.
This causes it to flood the well and drip into the bucket. It'sa very common problem.

If that does not solve the problem, it is a conventional ice maker made by Whirlpool, and is available at most any appliance parts house.

No loss here because installing a new valve with a new ice maker is pretty standard in the appliance repair industry.

Icemaker keeps freezing up after a couple of weeks of using then it becomes clogged with frozen ice int mechanical part of the icemaker

The water inlet valve on the back of unit opens when the ice maker needs water. If the valve doesn't seal good because of sediment or wear it will continue to drip and when the water reaches the ice maker supply tube it will freeze blocking the fill tube.. You can take the water line off the valve and watch to see if it drips.

My Kenmore icemaker seems to be leaking water under the icemaker and it drips and freezes

If it overfills and drips, look for an adjustment behind the plastic endcover with a +/- on it. - is less water.

If it continuously drips, replace the water inlet valve on the back where the house water supply comes in.

Water leaking underneath icemaker, dripping into ice tray

Either the inlet valve is stuck or the icemaker solenoid is shored.

Most likely the first one.
