Hi, got a new theatre system for Xmas. Its a Coby (CS-P63), with a DVD-755, the TV is a magnasonic. The dvd player plays music cd's, the FL/FR work as they should for the music ( I used these plugs to check all the speakers to make sure they worked), and they do, so they are wired right. However, the sub has a low hum, and when I put in a dvd I only get sound from the TV. I think there is some sound from the centre speaker, but no dialogue. i triple checked all the wiring for the system, and tried all the options in the manual, but have gotten no results. I tried to contact the company but of course got machine after machine and no humans. I sent off an email but expect no answer. I also tried to adjust the audio on the setup in the dvd player but only have the options of changing the room type, and that's it. the volume on the Sub doesn't seem to give any results either. What am I doing wrong?
My sub does the same thing. I hooked it, (my sub) up as the center and it worked fine thinking that it was the center speaker. Changed to different wires as well. It has to be a configuration issue that is somewhere telling the sub not to work within its proper capacity but I have checked everywhere within the menus on mine as well to no avail.

3.5mm is stereo sound, which means 2 speakers. so no there isn't a cable, u could get a 3.5mm to AUX cable, but that would only play sound out of the front 2 speakers and the subwoofer. otherwise you would need a device that supports 5.1
I believe this works - I've yet to try it myself!

The composite output (red, white and yellow) on the directv receiver should connect to the audio in (red and white) on the coby ht system. Then you have to select the correct input on the coby til you here the audio from the DTV receiver
with this system it comes with connector cables, on one end is 3.5mm to go into your computer and the other end is rca jacks that go into the subwoofer, all the speakers go to the subwoofer. your computer must have all 5 ports to get true surround sound, if not, just hookup the ones for the FL FR and run RCA split from that to the speaker output on your computer.
Had same problem with my HDMI connection on my sony bravia and sony theatre system, resolved by conecting a scart lead from the theatre system to one of the free scart sockets on the back of the TV, leave your HDMI connection in place as the DVD signal comes from this,
