he used a dolly ----i was not home when he moved it but had to take doors off to get it in the house--

  • hammers01 Jan 01, 2009

what do you think are the chances of it being o.k. since I plugged it in immediately after getting it in the house and let it run from 7 last evening untill 11:00 this morning? It is nearly new not sure exactly how old.

I guess we fried the compressor---I plugged it in this morning and it is still not cooling---we had it unpluged for two days

When you moved it did you lay it down on it's side or did you keep it upright? Also when is was moving by people did you keep the angle of the fridge no more then 45* meaning almost flat. Did you use a dolly?

Did you tilt it when you moved it and then when u got it in place plug it in? if so youve got compressor problems, anytime you tilt a fridge you have to let it set for several hours to allow the oil to get back to the compressor or you ruin the compressor

  • Anonymous Jan 01, 2009

its not going to work since it was tilted and then plugged in right away the compressor will be shot on it now

More then likely it was tilted more then it can be allowed to tilt. There is oil inside the compressor that will get into the refrigerant lines and it you try to run unit too soon after moving you will migrate the oil into the system and that will result in some bad things. Try to let it set for 24 hours unplugged and Hopefully the oil will drain back into the compressor. Sometimes I leave them unplugged for 48 hours to make sure. But it's not a for sure method other wise system will have to be cleaned out and new cap tube installed. Very costly. ken

I think the chances are pretty good. In my past most of the time has been pretty good on getting it cleared up. Now I am a maintenance man at a apartment complex and we just swap out units all the time and I control the move. I got two guys that do the heavy work and they are very careful. So I bring frig's to my shop and let stand couple days and they work just fine. If we move them flat in the back of a pickup. So they can be moved that way if you let the oil drain back down. might let them stand longer if we lay them flat.

Hi Ken, I didn't know not to plug right after tilting the fridge (was almost completely horizontal) and now the freezer doesn't freeze and fridge run's but doesn't keep very cold. it's been in the garage unplugged for about a year now and i tried to re plug but it's still not working. I'm assuming after reading several posts that I now have the oil and Freon mixed in the compressor (?) and have to drain and refill them and perhaps even change the compressor(?). Is there any DIY video's about this and which should I try first, replacing fluids or just change compressor? Thanks for any advise

Whirpool wgi fridge freezer, fridge not cooling?

Most frideges get all their cooling from the freezer. There will be a fan and duct in the back of the freezer that pushes cold air down into the fridge. If the duct is blocked with ice or the fan motor has quit. Your freezer will work fine but the fridge will barely cool at all. Check that the fan runs when the compressor is running, ( turn both temp knobs to the highest cooling and leave door open until comp. comes on). If the fan runs your duct is plugged. If not you need a new " Freezer Fan Motor". Most are simple to replace and cost around $100.00.

Whirlpool Fridge and Freezer quit cooling properly at the same time.

You likely have a defrost system problem.....call a service company to look at it.

Freezer is working but fridge is not cooling

is the evaporator fan (in the freezer) running? if not you cant move the cold air from the freezer too the fridge. also make sure the return air duct is not blocked. air moves from freezer, through fridge and back to freezer.

Kenmore fridge not working, ice cubes wet, freezer frosting up

You may need a new defrost module. The coils ice up when it is not working. This makes the fridge and freezer only a little cold. About 150 to 250 bucks to fix if you call a service person. Under a hundred for the part.

Fridge not cooling

Hello.
The most common thing that happens while moving a frig is when moving it they put the dolly underneath the condenser fan housing and bend it into the fan causing the compressor to overheat before it has a chance to cool down everything. If this isn't the case then I will send you a list of things to check out. Let me know.

Freezer not cold but fridge is cool

quickest and cheapest way is to switch the unit off overnight. possibly missed a proper defrost cycle and evap.coil is blocked. when properly defrosted, switch on and you could be back on line

Maytag fridge

Without knowing the type of fridge(side by side, freezer on top etc.) all I can offer is this: Somewhere between the freezer and the fridge there's an opening thermostatically controlled to transfer cold air from freezer to the fridge. Most have a fan to move the air. So either the fan (if so equipped) stopped, and need to replace, or opening is stuck closed, or plugged.
If freezer is working fine, this is the only problem I can think of.
Hope this helps
