How do I test the magneto coil?

There not much you can test. for. It either works or not. Disconnect the kill wire and try starting checking for spark. If spark is present then coil is working a further generating voltage. Check flywheel magnets to see if they good and strong.

Now ignition can fail to operate under compression so a spark gap test set at .166" need to be used. If works at this gap then it should under compression unless the high voltage is broken internally. A resistance test can tell if this is the case. Open circuit reading will most likely be broken wire. Most coil have non-replaceable leads.

Husqvarna 61ff spark plugs problems

The early 61 has a coil on the right side, and an electronic pack at the left side of the flywheel, if there is no spark it is nearly always the electronic pack playing up, make sure the wire to the coil from the box is a good conection under the small screw, the later 61 has a single peice electronic unit, so this will need to be replaced.

Husqvarna 266se wont start

The 266 has a two peice ignition system, the electronic pack at the lefh hand side of the flywheel is nearly always the one that goes bad, the air gap should be set at 0.3mm, the coil on the right hand side is never usually at fault.

I have a Husqvarna 61, it starts fine and will cut wood happily for the first five minutes of use, but then it looses power and stalls. It will start again fine, but then cuts out again soon after....

Start withe the inexpensive stuff first, pull the fuel hose out of the tank and change the filter on the end, by your discription it could also be an electrical issue, the early 61 had a two peice system, an electronic block to the left of the flywheel, and a coil at the right, if you have this system check the where the yellow two wires connect under the head of a self tapping screw under the coil, if the connection is ok it may well be a case of replacing the electronic box. The later 61 has a single peice ignition system, this may be breaking down when it gets hot, and need replacing.
Let me know how it goes, and if you need help with part numbers etc.

My Husquvarna Model 61 coils are not working I need a new coil where will i get an old chainsaw for spare parts for my machine now? I am in Sydney, Australia

check and search on E Bay mate, search for "Chainsawa' and "husquvarna", you should be able to pick up something cheap, also the coil from other Husquvarna models may fit, example, a 36 model coil, may fit a 61. A new coil is available from any mower and chainsaw shop, cost about $80.
