Sony RDR-HX715 needs to be tested through Service Mode.
Service Mode is in-built option and can be exicuted by Sony qualified tech as to know verious sections results. Test will show results in OK or NG status of related section.

I would suggest to have service manual of product if you want to test it by yourself, BUT with little knowledge, it can be dangeriuos for product because a wrong command can damage firmware and then it has no recovery.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Offhand, the Sony is caught in a loop. It has gone into a fault, recovered and reinitialize itself and thereafter would attempt to proceed to switch everything on. Finding another fault, it switches itself OFF, goes through the routine. This would then be either a software/firmware problem or a hardware fault is causing the machine to cycle initialization.

An alternative reset to clear the system is to unplug the unit, press and hold the power button while re-plugging back into the mains. Keep the hold for about 5 seconds. If system reboots, allow to complete the recovery, welcome screen and normal display. Power off, unplug for 5-~10 minutes, re-plug power on. If fault persist, then it would require the services of an authorized service center. There is no user DIY (do-it-yourself) possible.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy New Year.

Sony model RXR-HX715. No power only fan is working

check for failure in the power supply, you must need a trouble shooting to check weather the power supply has enough output voltage.

My dvd recorder model no dmr - es15 has troubleshooting with u61. where can i get it fixed

The u61 code is a common code on your unit. It signifies an issue with the DVD controller board. The problem is that it will probably cost more to fix the issue than the player is worth. Some techs had luck with dis-assembling the unit and resetting the optical block. If you have the tools and experience you can take the unit apart, disconnect all of the cables and move the optical block back. The error message is defined as the unit either suffering a power outage or being unplugged while it was on. The unit then tries to run it's own recovery program. More often than not the unit will make some noises, then display a message stating the recovery did not work, and advising you to take the unit to your local Panasonic repair center. Some owners had luck with unplugging the unit for a couple of hours, then plugging it back in and switching it back on.

In closing, if the unit displays the message that it did not recover you can then try and unplug for 2 hours. IF that doesn't work then dis-assemble and move the optical block. Failing that pay for a repair.

These steps should allow you to resolve your issue. If you do have further problems please don't hesitate to let us know. Thank you for the opportunity to assist you in resolving your issue.

Sony dvd recorder will not open

Hi there,

Well while the unit is on and the Welcome is frozen push and hold in the power on button for about 15 seconds or so until the power goes off. Then release the power button. The unit will go on and the Welcome will eventually blink and the unit will eventually cycle into power off with just the clock showing. Then unplug the power and wait, unplugged for a few days to let the memory capacitor discharge..... If further you have the same problem then you need to repair it....... Please post comments for further help or information...........

Good Luck!!

Problems with Sony RDR-GX300 DVD Recorder....I HAVE THE ORIGINAL REMOTE FOR THIS UNIT AND IT WILL NOT CONTROL IT...BNUT WHEN I POINT IT AT A SONY T.V. IT WILL WORK ON THAT UNIT????

Try changing the "command mode" switch on bottom right corner of remote. Setting 3 is the default code. This setting must match the setting in the system setup menu.

My dvd player rdr-hxd860 seems to be frozen on 'welcome'

I've had the same problem. I've actually unplugged the unit and it's been unplugged for probably about two weeks. When I reconnected the power this morning the problem persisted where the DVD Recorder was stuck on the Welcome Screen. As a last ditch effort I pressed and held the power button for 10 to 15 seconds until the word "Welcome" dissapeard of the screen and back on. This seems to have reset the unit. I know I should have tried this a long time ago. So much for reading the instruction manual! I'm just glad it's working again!

My DVD Recorder Won't Start

Sometimes, the Sony documentation recommends unplugging the DVD Recorder for at least 30 minutes, instead of the regular 15 seconds. I know this timing makes a difference on DVR's.

Sony RDR-GX220 DVD Recorder is not going past WELCOME

This is not a solution but was told by repairers that an ic has gone bad.
I resolved the problem for a while when I removed internal cable and some how got it working. It worked as long as it was powered up. Had a power failure and now battle to resolve the problem. Suspect that it can be a low voltage out of the regulator ic. The mystery was that when I got it working it worked perfectly. The firmware is also doing a power test and I think this is failing and thats why it is display welcome.

Sony dvd recorder as hdd error

try replacing the red sata cable which runs from the HDD under the DVD drive to the main board on the right-hand side. these are a common problem on these models, there cheap and unreliable. you can purchase a better quality cable from a computer store for little money. HDD ERROR is'nt necessery an HDD fault as i found out with my rdr-hx525. if however the HDD is faulty and you buy a replacement, once installed you will need to pair the new HDD with the unit by entering the service mode by unplugging the AC then while holding down open/close and play together then re-insert the AC lead while still holding open/close and play and wait until you see an "S" in the display then let go and the service mode will appear on the tv screen. go to no.9 HDD mode, press enter then go to no.3 Write ID then it will say "execute write ID?" yes and press enter and then it will say "writing HDD serial ID.... OK" once this is done, exit the service mode by keeping your finger on the power button for approx 10secs. your DVD recorder should now recognise the new HDD. if you don't follow this process, you will still have an HDD error message as your DVD recorder will have your old HDD installed and won't recognise your new one. given the amount of time since you posted this fault, you may still have the unit in question in which case i hope this solution is helpful, or for anyone else with the same problem.

My sony hd dvd recorder RDR-HXD 760 wont turn on or off, it just sits half way and says welcome, have tried holding on/off button down which does work for a bit the it comes back on by itself and goes back...

I had the same problem, my recorder was past it's warranty though. So I opened the case (4 screws on sides & 3 [silver] screws on rear) then unsecured the HDD (4 screws with rubber grommets and 1 screw with thin metal flange) I then disconnected the data and power cable (as illustrated on HDD) powered the whole unit up and got nothing (obviously) reconnected the HDD and plugged the unit in. It powered up and then turned itself off. I then turned it on using the power button and voila, it worked perfectly! All HDD stored videos were still there too! The unit even held the same time.
