Question about Minolta X-700 35mm SLR Camera

My Minolta X-700 with new batteries is still dead

I have cleaned the battery compartment and the batteries with an
eraser and has not solved the problem. I want to remove the
bottom plate but do not want to twist off the little screw. How it
the best way to loosen the screws without breaking off?

you will need a jewelers + type screwdriver. just turn screws to the left, remove the screws and bottom plate. push re-wind button in first. check the small white gear at the bottom of take up spool. if its broken it may be hard to replace as no new parts are available for this model.

I used a lot of types of batteries in my camera ( DC E30 digital camera ) . the problem is the battery empty very rapidly ( i.e my cam only take a 3 pic!!!!!) so, i need to help me to solve this problem...

Try this first. Take a regular new #2 pencil with an eraser and using said eraser rub all the contact points of the battery compartment. Over time a little oil and corrosion will cause these contacts to act as a resistor and thus the camera thinks the batteries are now dead. Let me know how that works. Hopefully you haven't diposed lots of "good" batteries!

How can I tell if my battery is dead?

Very often the battery is "not" at fault. The inner contacts within the battery compartment need to be cleaned. Take a cotton swab and "dampen" it with rubbing alcohol and clean those contacts. Also clean the contacts on the battery and the charger, if so equipt. This should solve your problem. Regarding the battery status, the battery icon will show as the charge depleats and so on, if you see no battery icon, than the battery is fully charged. Some cams show the fully charged icon also. Thank you, Dana

I have an old Asahi Pentax, release lever and shutter are stuck.

The Pentax is a easy fix, maybe.. If you feel comfortable removing the bottom cover, then remove the 3 cross point screws. The battery, if installed will be loose. Looking at the bottom section of the camera, locate the tripod socket. On on side is the battery compartment, the other an L shaped lever. Under the L shaped lever is a brass plate with a slot in it. In that slot is another lever that has a spring going through the end eyelet. Move that lever toward the front of the camera until it latches on the L shaped lever above. Then try the release.

The first thing to try on the X700 is fresh batteries. Clean the battery cap and contacts with a pencil eraser.

Even with new batteries, it still asks me to replace batteries

Two things to do here. First of all make sure the contacts in the battery compartment are not corroded. You can clean them up with the eraser at the end of a pencil. Then put in the new batteries, being sure that you have the polarity correct [+ end and - end inserted correctly]. If you still have the replace battery message power up anyway and go to the menu and find the reset. Resetting will most likely solve your problem.

I have a Minolta Maxxum 5000i. It is dead

Check to see if there is a button battery in another compartment. Usually the "big" battery is for the flash and some other functions but there may be another one that serves basic functions like aperture and shutter operation.

What if the advance lever is not advancing

Check the batteries, also clean the inside of the battery cover and the contact with an eraser. If you are getting metering lights in the viewfinder, then you have a shutter problem.

Canon 40d-used camera sunday-took cf card to store to make pics-

Try cleaning the contacts for the batteries with a pencil eraser. Make sure you hold the camera so the eraser debris falls OUT of the battery compartment as you clean. Also make sure the battery door latches properly, and that the batteries are correctly oriented.

New batteries...yet it still does not function.

Was the battery's removed before storing camera? If not corrosion on battery cap and contacts in battery holder. Clean with a pencil eraser, careful with the contact in battery comp.
If not fixed then you have flex circuit problems and that means your camera is a" paper weight" as no parts are available for this model.

Camera not switching on

Take batteries out . Find a pencil with an eraser on the end, and with the eraser 'polish' the contacts at the base of the compartment. Also the contact strip in the lid. If this model takes 2 AA batteries find a piece aluminium foil to 'pack' the lid out. If it takes 4 batteries make sure two pieces of foil across each contact. Replace batteries -give it a whirl If no joy press the battery compartment lid in firmly an try. Still in trouble Then this is a more serious job for a repair shop However do get on to the Technical Support at Konica[Now Sony I believe] to see if any other remedy is available.
