My Minolta X-700 with new batteries is still dead

I have cleaned the battery compartment and the batteries with an
eraser and has not solved the problem. I want to remove the

you will need a jewelers + type screwdriver. just turn screws to the left, remove the screws and bottom plate. push re-wind button in first. check the small white gear at the bottom of take up spool. if its broken it may be hard to replace as no new parts are available for this model.

New batteries and my minolta 7000 will not power up

Check for battery leakage on the springs n the battery compartment. That is the usual cause. You may have to disassemble the battery holder to clean it all out (use CLR to resolve the sludge and then clean it off).

Minolta x9 shutter does not go off and film advance lever does not move completely to the right, only half way. I had replaced the batteries and i tried to use the timer and the shutter still didnt go...

First off, is there film in the camera? If so, it sounds like it's at the end of the roll. Rewind the film, stroke the wind lever over to finish the shutter cocking cycle and that should solve the problem.

If there is NOT film in the camera, open the camera back and look at the shutter curtains, if they appear to be damaged, or out of alignment that's the problem. If nothing apppears to be wrong there, it's an internal issue and you'll need to consult a technician.

Anything other than it being at the end of a roll of film will require a technician to properly diagnose. Also, use the battery check function to see if the camera is getting power from the battery. If not, use a pencil eraser to clean the contacts inside the battery compartment and try again - if still nohing it's again internal.

The camera can likely be repaired, but cost will depend on the exact issue. Find a reputable local shop, or I'd recomment KEH ( if you have to go with an online dealer.

I have an old Asahi Pentax, release lever and shutter are stuck.

The Pentax is a easy fix, maybe.. If you feel comfortable removing the bottom cover, then remove the 3 cross point screws. The battery, if installed will be loose. Looking at the bottom section of the camera, locate the tripod socket. On on side is the battery compartment, the other an L shaped lever. Under the L shaped lever is a brass plate with a slot in it. In that slot is another lever that has a spring going through the end eyelet. Move that lever toward the front of the camera until it latches on the L shaped lever above. Then try the release.

The first thing to try on the X700 is fresh batteries. Clean the battery cap and contacts with a pencil eraser.

What if the advance lever is not advancing

Check the batteries, also clean the inside of the battery cover and the contact with an eraser. If you are getting metering lights in the viewfinder, then you have a shutter problem.

I cannot wind the camera

if the led's light in the finder you have a mechanical problem.
if the led's don't light in the finder then turn the shutter select knob left & right around 5 times do this also to the off / on switch. remove batteries and clean the contacts with pencil eraser.
if the leds still don't light then you have a flex circuit problem.

i am assuming there is no film in the camera.
if you decide to have the camera repaired get an estimate first as there are no new parts available.

New batteries...yet it still does not function.

Was the battery's removed before storing camera? If not corrosion on battery cap and contacts in battery holder. Clean with a pencil eraser, careful with the contact in battery comp.
If not fixed then you have flex circuit problems and that means your camera is a" paper weight" as no parts are available for this model.
