Question about Verizon Communications Samsung Alias Cell Phone - Black

Samsung SHC-U740 Alias resets itself when adding songs to library

I just transferred a whole bunch of mp3s to a Kingston brand microSD card and popped it back into my phone. So I go to My Music. Screen says "Adding songs to library." Normally the little circular double arrow should be spinning. It is not. After a few seconds, the phone shuts down and resets itself.

I have not had this problem before with other songs or with this or other microSD cards. I think it may be a problem with one of the mp3 files. How could I possibly narrow it down?

I removed ALL of the songs, and re-added only the few that I REALLY wanted to hear right now. That did it. I'll try re-formating, but I think the problem lay with one of the mp3 files. How or why I still haven't figured out, but I know Verizon software doesn't like things that come from sources other than verizon (e.g. third party ringtones).

I just found a great site that offers free ring tones, i've tried different ones, and yes, the Alias doesn't work that well with them, when someone calls, the ringtone is low and you can barely hear it. Myxer.com offers the best site for free ringtones and such, you just need to change the phone details to schu700, for some reason ringtones don't work if you put down Alias as your phone. I love the site due to that you can change the volume to high.

I also got a data cable for the phone, My laptop with Vista wouldnt' work even after downloading software online, Then I tried it with my windows xp desktop and it works.

The Samsung Alias works with microSD cards. Your 8GB card is actually a microSDHC card and will not work in devices not designed to work with them. You need to use a microSD card, 2GB or smaller.

Memory card unlocker

Micro SD (secure data) cards store information such as Word, image and video files.
Kingston microSD cards are used in many settings, such as schools, businesses and government offices, to protect data.
Some Kingston microSD cards are locked for added protection.
In the locked position, you cannot add or delete data from a microSD card.
You will need to unlock your Kingston microSD card in order to save data on it or delete data from it.

Remove the Kingston microSD card from whatever device it is kept in, whether it's a storage case, a digital camera or a GPS.
Find the small plastic switch on your Kingston microSD card.
If you are looking at the microSD card with the arrow pointing away from you, the switch will be on the right side of the card.

Flip the switch on the card to the unlocked position.
This will enable you to store and remove files on your Kingston microSD card.

Itunes to phone memory

your phone only supports mp3s and wma files. Itunes is not supported. you can convert the files to a comaptible format.
You can convvert them from AAC to mp3 with the itunes software
iT
unes AAC files to MP3 files that are compatible with Windows Media Player 11.
Note: The iTunes desktop application can only convert AAC files ripped from a music CD. It can’t convert music files purchased from the iTunes store.
  1. Open the iTunes desktop application on your computer.
  2. Select Edit > Preferences, then click the 'Advanced tab' and click Importing.
  3. Open the 'Import Using' pop-up menu, then select the MP3 Encoder option. Click OK to save your settings.
  4. Select one or more songs in your iTunes music library, then choose Advanced > Convert Selection to MP3.
  5. The converted MP3 file copies appear in your computer’s music library alongside the original AAC files.

Samsung u740 phone and itunes

Unfortunatly store reps have mostly only one thing in mind and that is to sell, sell, sell. Itunes uses a protect format called aac. which is unable to be played unless it is converted, the samsung alias (aka u740) does play MP3 format. My suggestion to you would be to use a program called Daniusoft Media Converter, to convert the music you have to mp3 and then transfer them to your phone via memory card or Verizons Music Essentials kit.
