Question about HP Photosmart R707 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Camera will not turn on.

I  replaced the battery recently (Duracell DRF60).  The camera worked for a while although I could not transfer images to iPhoto.  Now the camera won't turn on at all.  I reset it twice but still nothing happens except for one brief flash of green light.

Connect the camera to the charger. If it works while connected to the charger you need a new battery.

It depends on what software you are using to transfer photos from the camera to your computer.
If you install and use the "Camera Window" transfer software Canon included with the camera, you will see you have three modes to choose from, including the option to transfer just the photos on your camera that have not yet been transferred.

Connect the camera with a USB cable to your computer.
Power up the camera.
The computer will detect the camera, and open a dialog box offering you a choice of programs on your computer that can handle photo transfers.

If you choose the Camera Window software, it will open and present a menu with three choices of action. The first option is, "Import images from Camera." Select this.

Another submenu opens presenting these three options:

1. Import Untransferred images. (this is what you said you want)
2. Select images to Import. (manually select just certain ones)
3. Import All images (automatically transfers every image on the card)

Camera Window is just one of many available image transfer applications you could use. They all do essentially the same three things outlined above, including "Import Untransferred images."

Canon included a couple other utility programs on the CD that came with your Powershot A490 camera. One of them, "Zoom Broswer EX" enables you to reload photos from your computer, back on to your camera's image card, if you want to do that.

Camera won't stay on

If you don't hear any abnormal noises and the camera simply shuts off, make sure you are using fresh batteries. Some older camera models are sensitive to voltage and amperage drops from batteries that are getting too old. Duracell Quantum batteries should do the trick, and are a good price for the value.

If this does not work, you may have to do some surgery. Inside of the DSC-S40 is a very tiny button cell lithium battery. I'm not sure the exact size and rating, but you may want to try removing this tiny battery and replacing it with a similar or better one. It is soldered on with metal tab power leads. You might want to use a 40 watt soldering iron with a very tiny pin head sized tip when you place the new one in. Do not allow it to heat for more than 3 seconds. when you add your own solder to the new battery, it should only take 1 - 3 seconds for it to bond to the battery halves.

I remember having a friend donate his broken one to me and his did not work. It turned off as soon as you put power through it. What I did was take 2 small 30 gauge wires and temporarily lead them to the broken camera, directly on this button cell battery's terminal. And it worked!

The last thing I could recommend for you is to disassemble the camera more completely and make sure the lens system is not jammed. Although there usually is an on-screen error flashing if any part of the lens system malfunctions.

Good luck! But seriously, look into a new camera. This one is pretty dated. But I do commend you for trying to save it. This is a rare camera to an extent. It uses a pretty decent CCD based image sensor and the sharpness is good in various lighting environments. The video bitrate and resolution are outdated, but the color accuracy seems to be better compared to more modern cheaper cmos based point and shoot cameras.

How do you get the camera to charge? I put in new batteries and it still says battery low and shuts off. I have plugged it into the computer and it still won't charge. It won't even turn on.

Some camera will not turn on (Turn on but not take pictures etc) when you plug it in USB, it will only communicate with the camera PC suite software to transfer pictures.

Regarding the battery, if your camera has mobile phones type lithium ion batteries then you can either charge these batteries outside if you have a charger for them or put the battery in camera and plug the camera with its charger that came with it. Its just like charging mobile phone.

If your camera uses AA size (pencil cell) batteries then you will need to either buy Duracell batteries (or any other good Alkaline battery, Duracell is good) and throw them when they stop working or

Buy rechargeable AA size Ni-MH or Li-Ion batteries with charger. Charge the battery with its charger for at least 12 hours before first use or follow the instruction written on battery pack.

I think you are either using normal carbon AA size batteries that are used in clocks or toys, these will not work in digital camera.

Make sure that the battery you just purchased is designed for a digital camera. Some batteries, although look the same, may not produce the voltage to power a camera. Look on the package and states it's for cameras.

Your ccd imager is defective . You need to replace the ccd imager .Thats why screen turned red .
Connect your camera to computer and try viewing the photos .
Or use card reader to transfer photos to computer .

Replacing ccd will cost you around $150 .

Replace battery sign in New canon A590si camera.

You're using the wrong batteries. You need to purchase lithium batteries. They are quality batteries for high powered, battery operated electronics. Personally, I have a battery charger and use rechargable duracell batteries. (HR6/ DC1500/ NiMH/ 1,2V) Gives you approximately 16 hrs before having to recharge.

Problems downloading photos from camera

Has this been happening all the time since you got the camera?

My guess is that If the camera starts up again after powering off, it probably isn't the battery.

Can you try downloading only half of the images at a time? I'm thinking it may go into sleep mode after awhile if you're downloading a lot of photos. What format are you using, jpg? RAW? raw are really big files. What's your megapizel size?
