Hello jacquieh786,
The problem could be a number of things, but you want to always start with the basic stuff first. I would suggest cleaning the inside of the printer first as suggested in the service manual which you can download here
in any document format you want. When cleaning the printer make sure you use a dry, lint free cloth being careful not to touch the transfer roller which is the soft, spongy black roller. The other problem could be the toner cartridge, which can be replaced per instruction suggested in the service manual. Another problem could be a malfunction with the Transfer roller itself, but replacement should be done by a qualified technician. For more support you can visit the HP support website here.
You can also download owners manuals here and other helpful tools. I hope the information I provided helps solve your problem and if you need further assistance please feel free to ask:-)

If you do not mind, would you rate my help. I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

How do we stop printed documents from being smudgy with double/triple print all over the page?

There are 2 issues here

1 if regular paper (20lb) and you see the same image 2 or 3 times repeated down the page, you have a bad FUSER. it is a consumable. (this is called "ghosting")

2 if you are using paper other than 20lb you need to set the paper type to a heavier weight. This will increase the heat. I think it is a fuser problem unless...

if one colour is doing it, then change that colour cartridge.

Feel free to PM me if you have more questions.

My hp1012 is printing dark with shading on the pages and shadow or echos. Can something be replaced or fixed?

with this issue, you pretty much have to run a half way test unless you have the convieniance of another toner to try. basically, it's either going to br your toner or your fuser and a halfway test will determine this if you don't have another toner to try.

The Half-way Test

You will need to print a page and open the toner lid when you think the paper is underneath the toner cartridge. This will stop the printing so you can pull the toner cartridge out and look at the partially printed paper. It may take a few tries to time this test correctly so the paper stops under the toner but not completely into the fuser.
1. Print a test page from Tray 1, the "fold-down" Multi-Purpose tray on your printer.
2. Just as the test page completely disappears into the printer, open the toner lid door. The print job will stop, sensing an error.

3. Pull the toner cartridge out, and you will find the test page sitting directly underneath the toner.
4. Carefully remove the page by gently pulling the page upwards & free from the toner cavity. Careful! The toner has not yet been fused to the paper, so the print can be somewhat messy on your hands and may smudge easily.

Examine the printout.
1. If you do not see the print defect on your test page, that means the defect is being added later in the print process by the fuser. Fusers are the main component in a maintenance kit; click here to view our selection of maintenance kits for various LaserJet printers.
2. If the print defect is visible on this printout, that means the print defect is occurring before the fuser. Try replacing the toner cartridge (click here to view our selection of toner cartridges).
If you determine the print defect is occurring before the fuser, and swapping toners doesn’t fix the problem, there could be several things causing the problem. In the order of most likely to least likely: you could have two defective toner cartridges, the transfer roller might be faulty, the laser scanner could be dirty or defective, or the high voltage power supply could be bad. You might want to email or call since these scenarios are not as common.

hope this helps and if so please mark FixYa!!

HP 4200 printing very light, smudgy and blurry

Remove the rear door by pulling it down and squeezing the left tab to remove it.

Press the blue hooks and remove the fuser. Look for a worn coating on the gray roller.

Replaced toner is printing very light.

If the print quality is the same as the old one - light laser is dirty and/or transfer roller. Fuser would NEVER cause light copies -but rather, dark, smudgy copies

My HP LaserJet 1012 isn't printing. I can't print anything on my hp laser jet 1012. I have installed the CD disc and it says that it can't install it. It does go through the whole program. When I click on...

so the printer used to work fine before the computer was reset, right? the operating system you had is the same you have now? (like you had XP and now have Vista, or kept the same?) cause if you changed operating system you might have a driver version conflict.

this printers have a green button right? if so, what happen if you press it? does it print a demo page? correctly??

i recommend you to go hp.com and download the newest drivers for your model and operating system.

if this doesnt solve the issue (but the demo page came out OK) then you may want to check your communication cable. and do the reinstalling procedure again.

if still not working you will have to take your printer to be reset, or look over the web on how to, that information is classified.
