Question about Projection Televisions

1 Answer

For some time if I turned off the tv, the sound would come on but not the picture, eventually the picture would return. Today it has not returned after being on for a few hours.

Sorry I don't know what a psu is or what you mean by "a con of cheapish looking design". What connections are you speaking of?

    Thank you.

  • vberg Jan 01, 2009

No, the screen is black and not grey like when in standby mode. Thanks will check all the connections.

  • vberg Jan 01, 2009

Rechecked all connections to make sure all tight and they appear to be so. I guess will have to call a repair company. Thank you

i am not to sure but i am fairly certain nit might be a psu problem. apperently they have a con of cheapish looking design and the psu. also scheck your connections give them a little swirl inb the socket it might help. if not take it into a techician and let him look at. i find it odd though to be hearing sound and no picture. do you run your sound the a sound system at all?

  • aidan wilson Jan 01, 2009

hmmm, do youi get like a glow on your screen even though it is black canyou see like a glow in thye screen.

  • aidan wilson Jan 01, 2009

ok a psu is a power supply unit that converts power down to a certain level for the tv and its componets. and a con meaning pro's and cons of a product meaning good and bad and the connections i am talking about are the ones that you have connected for your tv dvd player ect..

Panasonic TV without picture

If the sound stays on try just going up and giving it a "whack" on the side, a pretty good one. If the picture springs back to life it is likely a poor solder joint.
Those sets and many others are prone to cold solder around the vertical IC due to the heating/cooling cycles and high temperatures inside a TV. If you hit it and you get a picture back it likely just needs to be re-soldered.

Hi,
Replace Lamp in TV and lamp replacement procedure would be written in Instruction Manual of TV.

Always buy Sony Original Lamp for smooth picture result and avoid aftermarket/ cheap lamps.

Let me know exact model number of TV if you need more help.

We keep losing sound and picture on our TV

If you haven't replaced the lamp, it is almost certainly time to change it. A weak lamp will cause the TV to play for a short time. As the old weak lamp heats up, it draws more current, and the reflector in the lamp, having become cloudy over time, converts the light into more heat rather than reflected it out into the set. Eventually the lamp draws too much current and the set turns it off, going into a restart cycle. Buy an original Sony lamp, as the aftermarket replacement lamps are known trouble makers. Be sure to rate this solution. Thanks!
