Hello..there could be many reasons for this. What happens when you try to connect?

One thought to start with: check if there is a button on the laptop to enable wireless connection, and that it is switched on. Also, be sure you are close to your router while you troubleshoot the wireless connection.

For further help, could you please tell us the make and model number of the router, your laptop make and model, and operating system (Vista, XP, etc) Thanks.....

We need a bit more information to help you. Presumably if the router was asking you for a WEP key you would know what the problem so we have to assume you can't even see the router? The most likely thing with a NEW laptop is that the wireless modem is turned off. Since you don't say what kind of laptop, the generic answer is that there is a switch or button someplace ( usually well hidden ) that turns wireless on and off. It's usually designated with the little wireless logo. Have a quick peek at the setup guide that came with your machine.

I would like to know when it say laptop with built in wireless. Does that mine i already got internet service on it. Or i have to buy USB modem.

Hello Blac,

All the laptops available in market have built in wireless 802.11 b/g/n or 802.11 b/g/n Bluetooth® wireless networking. It means that you can access the internet via Wi-Fi or through Wi-Fi hotspots. In wireless connectivity you do not require the wired connection to access the internet. In home you can connect the laptop via wireless connection using the home networking router available in market. The advantage of wireless connection is that you can use the internet in your home anywhere with in 100 meters of range with proper wireless signals. You will require to get the internet connection from the ISP(Internet Service Provider).

Please follow the steps mentioned below on the Computer where the internet connection is working normally and check if the issue is resolved.

  • Please type "http://192.168.0.1" into the address bar, then hit "Enter" or "Return."
  • Please Use "Admin" as the user name and leave the password blank when the login screen appears.
  • Please click on Wireless, enter the Wireless SSID name (name for the Network) and under Security, select the Security type and type the Security Key.
  • Save the settings and try to connect to Wireless on the Computer having the issue.
  • It will ask for the Security Key, enter the Security Key provided during the Wireless setup.
This should resolve the issue.
If the issue is not resolved, reset the Router to factory settings and then try connecting.
Please try to locate the Reset button near the Ethernet ports and press for 10 seconds.

Good Luck!!!!
Please let me know if you require further assistance.
Thank you for contacting.

you may have to go to your routers ip address and see if you cant configure it to work or maybe your router can only support a certain number of wireless devices.

You could try changing the security. Some of the older laptops have trouble with the new WPA2 security. Use WEP and you should be OK if this is the problem. Good luck TT

Will not connect another computer

you have to set up the WEP key. Open internet explorer and enter 192.168.0.1 and click on the wireless tab to set up the security key - there you can create a WEP, or WPA key - remember the key so that you cab enter it into the laptop.
