go to device manager (Right click on My Computer,Properties,Hardware tab,Device manager) and look for Universal Serial Bus Controller and see if there's any USB device with '?' on it and make sure that you've installed the sound driver properly

nfs.exe "need for speed app." are you playing a ea game?update your graphics ,audio and keyboard drivers.rt, click on it go to properties check the compatibility mode. shutdown any unnecessary process in taskmanager,lots of people having problems.ea is working on a patch if you cracked the game yourself,it might be a bad crack..overwighting nfs.exe with original nfs,exe also helped a couple guys,good luck let me know if you discover any other fixes
