Question about LG RH266 Recorder

Not picking up clear tv reception through dvd player

Hi
I purchased a LG DVD recorder/ in South Africa model RH265. We then moved to Australia where I purchased a LG plazma 42inch tv. I have followed all the instructions from the DVD recorder user manual however I still do not pick up a clear reception of TV channels through the dvd recorder as well as not being able to pick up all the channels. I can therefore not record tv programs on the hard drive of the dvd recorder. I would appreciate any suggestions or help in solving this problem.

    Hi I am back on line, please could you assist with my problem posted above. I made payment yesterday and want to try solve the problem tonight. I can therefore not record tv programs on the hard drive of the dvd recorder.I have purhcased. I can pick up tv with the aerial pluged into the DVD recorder and another tv cable between the dvd player and the TV. This gives me a perfect picture. I have connected yellow, red and white cables from the dvd av out to the tv av in connections and chose the av1 option on the remote control to tune the dvd player through the auto programming option. This is where I pick up reception which appears not to be digital and is very fuzzy. Please help

Hi!
Try to recordin diffrent medialike on a dvd+r written +R disk. Then take it out and replace with blank -R (recommend you to use rewritable(RW) DVD's). Then it would come up with new screen asking if you want to initialize disk. Answer it yes and it will take about 20 seconds. Then try to DUB from HDD to DVD again. This time it came up with the dubbing menu.
Hardly ideal, but the trick was to get it to recognise it as a blank and initialize.

    The recordings you've made on the HDD are they of standard definition TV broadcasts (SDTV) or transferred from copyrighted DVD sources? If they are coy-protected they will not record, if the size of the recording exceeds the DVD's capacity it will ask for a media with greater capacity, such as a Dual-Layer DVD. Ensure that your recordings do no exceed 4.3GB and it should work okay.

    Try to transfer a small clip of 5 minutes standard definition TV. If that fails it's probably a faulty unit and you need to get it exchanged or repaired as it is warranty, won't cost you a penny.

    Try going into the OSD and see if lessening the brightness and contrast will improve the sharpness of the picture.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Offhand, the DVD being cleat indicates that the connection from the DVD recorder to the LG plasma TV is correct as you have posted. Your additional post of "not...clear reception of TV channels...not...pick up all...channels" also indicates that there is reception albeit weak/poor, still the connection is there. Based on all these, may I offer possibilities/ideas you can explore/try:

  • temporarily directly connect the coaxial cable to the LG TV instead of passing first the DVD recorder. If the reception is better, there is an issue with the recorder, if the reception is the same, there is a probable issue with the signal coming in;
  • try to connect the incoming coaxial cable to another TV and note the quality of reception, if the same, the signal from the cable is the issue, if clear, then the setup of the DVD recorder is the issue;
  • may I inquire, when you were in South Africa, were you using an aerial antenna or cable from a provider?
  • in Australia, are you using an aerial antenna or cable from a provider?
  • On most tuners (whether DVD recorder or TV) there would be in the Menu/Setup a choice between AIR/STD, CABLE or HRC. Might it be that this has to be changed to match what and how you are receiving the signal? AIR/STD would be an external aerial/antenna, CABLE would be from a provider, HRC would likewise be from a provider.
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

    Hi again,

    I checked the manual of an LG RH265 and it does not have a composite video out for the video/yellow RCA cable. It appears to have only SCART and component video out which are Y, Pb and Pr. Might this be the cause of "not to be digital and is very fuzzy"

    Cheers.

Hi
We have the same Tv system as south africa. So the unit should still work. Have you been able to get the Tv working with its own tuner, or another TV operating from the same aerial socket. It may be a signal strength problem preventing you from getting results.

    The LG recorder is actually a model sold in Australia also. I would be perhaps replacing out the aerial  leads that connect the unit to the wall. They are often really low quality connectors, and may have been damaged unplugging for the move. I live in Brisbane, and am happy to answer any questions you may have and help sort out the problem.

    It is possible that you are only able to tune analog stations with the DVD recorder. It does not have a digital tuner built in from what I can tell. The plasma will be tuning to digital signal. Analog is still on air in Australia at present, but will be turned off this year. You will need to get a set top digital tuner box to decode digital signals for the  LG recorder to then tune into. They can be purchased from D!ck Smith Electronics in your neighbourhood for about $50. This will solve your problem.

    Hi Dale. It is apparant that the recorder you own does not have a digital tuner built in. This is the reason for the poor pictures as I have already explained. If you go to a Harvey Norman or DickSmith electronics store, you will be able to get a digital tuner set top box to add to the unit and solve your problem. Cheers. happy at answer any questions you may have about this.

Could you give some more info? What connections are you using? Is the TV tuned to the same channel as the recorder?

Lg blue ray player Bh7530 region free code can

When a DVD disc is created, it is encoded with a "Region number." The disc will only play on DVD players with the same Region number - for instance, a Region 3 disc won't play on a Region 1 player.
Region 1: U.S. and U.S. Territories, Canada
Region 2: Japan, Western Europe, Middle East, South Africa
Region 3: South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Southeast and East Asia Region 4: New Zealand, Australia, Pacific Islands, Mexico, Central/
South America
Region 5: Russia and the former Soviet Union, Africa, Indian
subcontinent, North Korea Region 6: China
The only way to get around the region codes, is to rip a DVD to your computer and remove the region code. Then burn the DVD to a DVD R. There are programs around on the net, but I'm not sure it is legal in all countries.
Google for the programs.
A DVD player sometimes allows you to change the region code once. But it not even would allow you to switch back after you changed it once.
