The router will work properly with your internet connection if you have the right configuration. There is a configuration for cable internet connection and broadband internet connection. If you are using a broadband internet connection some of the ISP are providing a username and password before you can access the internet connection, so in your router, you will have to use the PPPoE username/password type of configuration. If you have cable internet connection, choose Dynamic IP DHCP and clone the mac address of your NIC by clicking the Clone Mac address.
Just in case if you don't know how to access the configuration page of your router follow the steps 1. plug your router to your computer via ethernet cable 2. If you are using windows XP - click start - click run - type cmd - press ok - type ipconfig on the black screen - look for the default gateway (this is the ip of your router) - open internet explorer - type http://the default gateway that you found - press enter - under internet, choose manual configuration - save all settings after providing the correct configuration.
3. If you are using windows vista/7 - click pearl button - click start search - type cmd - right click the black icon up at the top - left click run as administrator - click continue - on the black screen type ipconfig - check the default gateway - open up internet explorer - type http://the default gateway that you found
let me know if this helped you we'll see what else we can do

Connect your modem to internet port of the router and your computer to any numbered slot. Now open 192.168.1.1 in your internet explorer,it will ask for username and password.Leave the username blank and in password type admin. You will get the linksys page.On the setup page you can see internet connection type.select PPPoE from the drop down menu.In username and password enter the username and password which you use in dialing broadband.Scroll down and click on save settings.Turn off the router and modem.Power up your modem first and then router. Now you wont need to dial broadband. You will be connected automatically.
If you can connect directly to your virgin Media Broadband and get internet then your laptop and broadband router is fine.
The wireless router appears not to have a DNS entry and you will need to add that manually.
I suggest that you connect directly to the Broadband modem, be sure you can get onto the internet. Once you have confirmed you can get onto the internet you need to get the dns information from your Broadband modem for later.
once connected directly to the broadband modem, click start>run> then type "CMD" then click open. you will get a prompt type the following and record the DNS Server ip addresses.
"ipconfig /all" then hit enter this will display your ipaddress information but mostly you need the DNS server ip addresses.
once you have recorded them rerun the install, but this time instead of at the end of the install where it shows the Wireless router information you can modify or change it and add the DNS server entries.
Also by default most wireless routers ip address is 192.168.1.1 and you can type that from a internet explorer and change it from there as well. I believe it's no ID or user name and the password is admin.
check your internet settings for Internet Explorer 1. open browser, click tools menu the select "Internet Options" 2. in Internet Options select "Connections" tab 3. at Connections, click "LAN Settings" 4. at LAN settings "Automatically detect settings" should be mark check 5. click OK to save settings, close Internet Explorer Browser and open it again.
for Firefox Browser 1 open browser click "Options" menu 2. at Options, select "Advance" then select "Network" the click "Settings" 3 Connection Settings, select "Direct Connection" if your computer directly connected to Internet provider otherwise select "Auto Detect Proxy Settings" if your using a Router. 4. click OK to save changes, close youi browser and open it again.
How many computers do you have? Make sure you can go online first via hardwired. If the internet works fine hardwired, one thing that you can try is change the current channel of the router.
Open the setup page of the router.
1. Launch Internet Explorer, type http://192.168.1.1
2. A username and password box will show up. No username and password is admin
3. Go to WIRELESS tab. Change the channel to 11 and click on Save Settings. Restart your computer and try to connect again.

This will take you to the router page. On the page you will se AUTOMATIC CONFIGURATION DHCP, change that to PPPOe, enter your broadband username and password. Click save settings at the buttom of the page. YOU WILL ONLY GET CONNECTION IF YOUR USERNAME AND PASSWORD IS CORRECT.
