Yes its 100% lens problem.the lense of the ps2 consists of two parts, one is the one that reads the dvd disc and the other one that reads the cd-r only.the dvd reader is already busted that is why it only recognises only some cds which are cd-r's.try replacing the lens and you can play dvd discs again.hope this one helps

Games like God of War 2, Grand Turismo 4 etc take time to load and some times these games are not loaded by consoles with weak lenses or dirty lens. You should consider cleaning your lens.Cleaning lens might solve your problem plus here is a trick for you to play such heavy games(Although its about playing DVDs on PS2 but you can play your game by following this tip the same way.)

Just updated ps3 and when tryin to play discs the symbol appears in the corner and then the disc doesnt play is there anyway to fix this

Hi,

This is a very common problem with the PS3 and is caused by a problem with the laser on the Bluray drive which is malfunctioning and can no longer read the game disk properly.

The PS3 uses a dual laser system. This consists of either a dual refractor type lens or two entirely seperate lenses depending on which pickup is fitted to your particular system. One laser is for reading ordinary DVD disks and PS2 disks and the other for Bluray and PS3 games.

The symptoms you describe are quite typical of a failure of one or both of these lasers.

For more information on how to resolve the problem please have a look at this FixYa Tip on the subject.

Many thanks for using FixYa.

When I go to play a game on my ps2 and put the game in the ps2 eye prevents the disk from spinning I have the newer ps2 that is slim the eye that reads the disk keeps sliding up and the disk does not get...

Does this happen to all of your Discs? If you know someone who also has a PS2, try to run your discs first on that PS2...If they worked, then probably either the lens of your PS2 needs to be replaced, or it only needs cleaning. Or it is also possible that your disc isn't inserted on the disc tray properly...and by "inserted properly " on the tray I mean is to make sure that the 3 pins on the spinner of your PS2 are sticking out of the hole on the DVD and thus gripping the disc...

Ps2 not reading discs

does it still read the disk you was playing or not if it dont then you could buy a lense cleaner put this into you ps2 and then after it has cleaned the lense try your games again you can buy these really cheap and they are just a disk with little brushes onn that cleans the lense in anything that takes disks if this dont solve the problem and the ps2 dont play any disk at all then the laser will need replacing you can replace it yourself but it will need to be recalibrated witch is something a pro must do as not doing this will stop it reading any disk but you only get this prob if you buy new laser you can get second hand ones but you never no if they are working or not hope this is some help to you
