Question about LG Electronic Window Air Conditioner

1 Answer

Aircon makes a noise

During operation the machine makes a noise as if it could be out of balance and sounds as if a blade is making contact with something. The cold air does not come through after this happens. We switch off and wait and turn on again and it resets itself only to happen again at times. Filters have all been cleaned, machine is approximately 4 or 5 years old

Might be coming from the following....
1) fan motor- bearings or bushings need replacement
2) fan shroud has deformed due to age and is obstructing the fan rotation
3) motor control circuit contacts are dirty or defective hence have less voltage running thru thus an underpowered system

Unit makes a loud rattling noise when operating

Hello, most likely the fan blade is either loose or cracked at the hub causing the blade to hit the fan shroud. You will either have tighten the fan blade or have to get a replacement.

Whynter Portable Air Conditioner Model: ARC-14S. Problem: It sounded as if something fell inside the unit while it was operating (cooling) then it started to vibrate horribly. The vibration is only...

Hi,Whynter Portable Air Conditioner has many moving parts, and they all make noise and cause vibrations. Some of these parts are more likely to causing shaking and loud noises, and sometimes this signals a larger problem, something to watch and scrutinize. If serious enough, it calls for a repair.

Loose Parts

Loose parts cause the majority of shaking and vibration noises in your air conditioner. A few of the most common loose parts include the air compressor, the piston rods and even the fan or blower unit itself. These noises are clunking, clanking sounds that occur along with a vibrating action. The only method of repair is a complete compressor replacement, which is a repair only a certified air conditioner technician is qualified to make. The compressor is a fully sealed component, so individual parts in the compressor cannot be repaired.

Fan Blades

Fan blades cause noise, shaking and vibrations even when properly secured. If fan blades contact the exterior structure of the air conditioner due to a bent fan blade or broken and misaligned grate, a constant, repetitive noise and vibration results, which sounds like a ticking or banging from the interior of the air conditioner. Vibration in this case is limited but still present.

Mounting Brackets

When an air conditioner shakes, there is a problem with the mounting brackets. These brackets hold the air conditioner compressor steady as it operates. Normal vibrations and shaking would otherwise occur without these brackets. A loose mounting bracket causes the air conditioner to rock back and forth and creates a clanking sound. As the compressor starts up, this rocking and clanking sound begins, resulting in a very loud and fast vibration and noise. It also occurs when the unit shuts down.

Other Sounds and Vibrations

Sometimes air conditioners squeal, hiss, hum or screech. Each noise is often accompanied by a vibration. Humming sounds along with a vibration may indicate a bad capacitor, the electrical part responsible for starting the machine. Hissing sounds tend to indicate a pressure problem while screeching and squealing sounds are fairly common in window air conditioners and in central air conditioners. This sound is also a result of the compressor motor. It usually starts when the unit turns on and continues through its normal operating cycle. Vibrations always occur in the air conditioner due to moving parts and the compressor motor's operation.

Hope it helped..

You need to balance the fan blades. There should have been some small metal pieces that came with the fan. I you can not find the pieces, your local Lowe's or Home Depot carries them in the lighting area.

3 year-old Goodman compressor/heat pump terribly loud @ start

Without being there to see it and have only your description in front of me, it sounds like the fan blade could be out of balance.......but it sounds more like a loose fan blade hub. Most Goodman units offer a minimum 5 year parts warranty. The Labor warranty is questionable, but the installing contractor or the Goodman Distributor should be able to give you that information. Of course this would cover manufacturer problems and not physical damage. As far as a history of this problem with Goodman..........I've seen it with every brand. If there is a problem getting it under warranty, you might be able to purchase the blade yourself. Before replacing the fan blade, I recommend disconnecting the motor wires from the contactor, tape off the ends and remember exactly where they were attached.....then start the unit to see if the noise is still evident, if so, it's probably your compressor. I recommend a certified repairman....not the one that quoted you $800.00. If you hear only the compressor start up and not the loud noise you are discribing, then try replacing the blade first.

I hope you find this information to be very helpful to you. :-)

My KOLIN window type remote control AIRCON is building up ICE

If you already had the coils and filter cleaned and the blower is OK, that only leaves the refrigerant charge.
You are probably low on refrigerant.

HEATER MAKING LOUD NOISES

Check the draft inducer motor for any partial blockages or dibri.

I've seen sticks, birds nest particles and pieces of deteriorating fan blades (squirrel cage type fans) cause this.

You might also find that the inducer motors bearing are going.

If its a loud vibrating grinding type noise, I'd suspect bearings or missing pieces of the blades. (unbalanced)
If it's a clanking type noise I'd suspect loose items hitting the fan.

The inducer motor will only operate right before and during burner operation, while the blower motor can operate at any time depending on your setting.

Loud Popping Sounds

If this is a heat pump system it is possible that your fan blade is hitting ice on your condenser coil.
