Question about Maytag MDE9316 Dryer

1 Answer

How do you get the top off of my Maytag dryer to see the belt?

My dryer quit turning when there are clothes in it and is slow to start up when no clothes are in it, we are suspicious of the belt being bad but cannot figure out how to get the top open to look at it.

You actually must remove the front. There are 2 screws near the bottom; then it hinges out. Unplug the dryer first! You may have to remove some wires to get the front completely off. Hope this helps!

My dryer seems slow up or stop then starts up again. Would that be the fuse?

Sounds like the belt is slipping, does it start slipping immediately? Try it without any clothes in it, it is definitely NOT a fuse.

Maytag Performa PYE2200AYW drum turns until I put clothes in it, then it slows and stops.

You have the belt on wrong. There is a side with numbers or writing on it and ribbed side like treads. The tread side should be facing down, making contact with the drum. If the other side is touching the drum then whenever clothes are put in the belt will slip causing the drum not to

Maytag electric dryer drum starts and stops turning but keeps going

Hello,
I would think you are on the right track, possibly a belt, I would also check all the rollers or idlers while you are replacing the belt.
Enjoy and best wishes

I placed a small load of clothes in the dryer turned it on and came back to the dryer 5 minutes later and smelled like somthing was burning. I don't believe the dryer ever started. I unplugged the cord...

Normally what happens in this case is the dryer belt snaps. You can test this by turning the dryer on without any clothes in it. If the drums heats up but does not turn/rotate the first thing to check is your belt. You could check the belt yourself if you have the knowhow or the expertise or you could get someone to have a look for you.

Dryer can't turn on. Start button just buzzes.

replace the "Broken-Belt" switch by the drum motor, when the belt breaks it shuts off the heating element so as not to burn the clothes because the drum can't turn to produce air flow to dry the clothes as they tumble, when you replace the belt it will make the switch close the circuit again and it will start

My maytag dryer quit turning, the cloths were warm but not dry and I can hear the timer runner. What is wrong?

your drum belt is more than likely broken, that turns the drum, you need to remove screws that secure the top to see if this is the problem, they're very easy to replace.

Dryer won't turn

The problem is likely a slipping dryer belt. The belt tensioner is not working or the belt needs replacing.

Maytag dryer won't rotate after blower wheel replacement

The dryer belt may have broken or come off its pulleys. Pop open top of dryer or rear vent door to look inside to see if this is your problem. Let me know if I can help, Thanks Sea Breeze
