Yes, I have tried this but for some reason it doesn't show on either.

Here is a pic of the port that I place the monitor plug in if the video card is not connected. "http://i42.tinypic.com/2i8y939.jpg"

Ok, I have tried this and my moniter now shows video an such but a new problem has occured.."Reboot and select proper Boot Device or insert Boot Media and press any key!"

  • Joshua He Jan 02, 2009

Ok, Just did that and everything booted up fine but when I put in the CD the same thing appeared.

Well, when I turn it on you can hear the PC booting up via all of the confirming beeps. Then it goes to a black screen with a little white line beeping and does nothing so I put in my cd then it displays the same boot message.

This board has an oboard video adapter; have you tried connecting your display to it instead of the video card?

First make sure that you have the P4 connector (the square one at the top of the board connected to your P4 power from the power supply.
From here I would disconnect the data cables from the hdd, optical drives, and remove all video/peripheral cards. You should have only the RAM, CPU, and power connected, then try to boot again.
If this works, then add 1 device at a time until it fails to start. This will isolate the component that is giving you problems.
With a single stick of RAM, try to get the computer to POST. (if possible, test the ram in another machine first to ensure that RAM is good)

    OK,
So it's powering up. Add you hard drive, then power it up. If it works, then do your CD-ROM drive.
If that works then install the video card.
Once you get all your components installed then you can put your Windows disk in, and boot from it. That should get your windows install running.

Could you clarify"Ok, Just did that and everything booted up fine but when I put in the CD the same thing appeared." What appeared? DId the PC boot off the disc?
Did it crash or blue screen instead?

You need to tell the computer to boot from the CD; there may be an option in the POST screen to do this; otherwise you will need to enter the BIOS and set the CD-ROM as the primary boot device. From there, look for the prompt, "press any key to boot from CD" and tap any key to boot...

Remove the video card you added, then try again.

If the pc works with another video card then the one you just bought is defective - take it back and have it replaced.

Problems with 8400GS graphics card

First, you need to be sure you have installed the correct drivers for the card that corresponds to your OS.

Second, you need to go into the control panel (assuming you are running Windows of course) and tell the computer you now have a new graphics card installed and to use it instead of the default one detected when the OS was installed.

Reattach the monitor to the GeForce card and reboot. All should be OK.

Yes, they both will act independently if you choose to use it that way or they will show the same picture, one is a DVI output and the other is VGA. Use the ATI’s CATALYST software suite provides the ultimate software required to enjoy the full acceleration of your ATI Graphics Accelerator card. You can use it to separate your Primary video from your Secondary video.

Any bog standard dvi cable should work. As should a dvi to vga converter. Dvi is by far the better interface, and I would highly recommend using it, without any converters.
